Thanks LLLRH for giving me the info on APs.

What do I need besides my tickets to upgrade to an Annual Passport?

Thanks.

$$$ ;)

Seriously though, you need to exchange your park hoppers before they expire. For example, if you have a 3 day park hopper and are on your 3rd day, make sure you exchange them before the park closes that night or you won't be able to use the value of your park hoppers towards the AP.

DLR will let you in on the first day you use your AP, even if it's a blockout day. So if you're only going for one day, you don't have to spend the time upgrading, but if you are going for more than one day, and some of the days would be blocked out, then buy the multi-day ticket and upgrade. They say you cannot upgrade a more expensive multi-day ticket for a lower priced AP. I'm guessing it's specifically to keep people from trying to get around the blackout days during the busier seasons.

Hope that helped.

That and because once they've got your money they are not about to give it back to you.

If you buy an AP with parking, or purchase parking, and you paid to park on the day you upgrade the AP if you give them your parking ticket the AP price will be reduced by the price you paid to park. I don't know if you had a multi day ticket and paid for parking on multiple days if you would get the parking back on all those days or not.

Also if I remember correctly the APs expire 365 days from the first use of the park hoppers not the date you upgraded.

Say I wait to upgrade on a Saturday, so I can use the EE feature of the hopper pass on that Saturday. Later on that Saturday I decide I want to hop from DL to DCA (or Vice versa). Could this be a problem since I just upgraded to an AP on a blockout day?

Its not supposed to be a problem. However, like a lot of things, it depends on the cm at the gate. I upgraded last month, 2nd day of the trip, a black out day. When we went to DCA I didnt have a problem. The CM said it was a blackout day, I said I just got the pass today, she let me in. However, that evening when we went back to DL the cm was rude about it. I told her I just got it that day. She said "its dated yesterday?". I said thats because of upgrading a park hopper that I had used the day before. She made me dig my receipt out and show her. I was very thankful I hadnt clean out the camera bag when we were back at the hotel. So be sure to keep your receipt with you that day!

You'll need ID when you go into upgrade. I went first thing on a Saturday AM and only had to wait in line behind one person. I was in and out in a matter of minutes. Then I was able to use the dinning discounts all day, as well at the 20% off tour discount.

Thanks, hlbtimes2 . I will save the receipt. I'm glad someone has actually experienced this.

We arrive in Anaheim on the 30th June and will be going down to the parks on the 1st July to buy our tickets. We are going to be in Anaheim till the 18th July and want to be able to go to the parks as and when we choose. Last time we bought a Deluxe AP, but because of 4th July, we can't do this as we won't be allowed in the park around that time with our passes. So, we are going to buy a 4 or 5 Day hopper ticket and upgrade to an AP so we can get in around the 4th July and also for the rest of our stay.
Is this the best way to maximise our time at DL?

It sounds like a good plan. But, I would probably order tickets before you go. I think they are slightly cheaper online then they are at the park. You'll want to double check before you go.

edit: I just noticed you were coming from England. I would probably order tickets in advance, to get the cheaper rate, and have them in will call. That way you dont have to pay for shipping.

Thanks for that.
Is it a big saving buying them online as opposed to buying when we get there? I also don't have a prinetr at the moment (well not one that works!!!) so would I need one to do will call?
