When to wear a Tux?

On what occasion/s is my DH to wear a tux? We are on a 7 night Eastern, cat 1. And if he's in a tux, am I to wear special occasion/cocktail?

Formal night usually means a tux and a long or short formal dress for a woman. I wear a black cocktail dress with some beading on it next to my husband who wears his tux. This night is the Captain's Gala Dinner night. Semi-formal can be a tux or a suit for a man and a nice cocktail dress for a woman. I still wear another plain black sheath next to my husbnd who wears a dark suit. If you choose not to wear DCL's suggested attire they will still let you in the dining rooms for dinner. We just got back from a 3/15 western and the people who choose to participate looked fantastic each night. Kathy

We have every intention of following DCL's guidelines. I assume, then, that there is only one formal evening per 7 night cruise, and one semi-formal? I also assume this is exclusive of any evening you may dine at Palo.

Yes, 1 formal and 1 semi-formal. We have yet to dine in Palo in our 5 Disney cruises. Palo has a jacket suggested attire I believe and a nice dress or the usual pants suit for a women but don't quote me on that. When your docs arrive they will have a little booklet that describes almost everything. Michelle also had a dress code post at the beginning of the cruise forum. You will have to let everyone on the board know about the cat. 1 when you return. We had a lot of perks in our cat. 3 and I assume the cat. 1's have even more than what we had. Kathy

Thank you again, and if I may, just one more question: Just how many men do wear the tux on formal night? Half, a hand ful? Need some ammunition to get my DH on board all the way!

I imagine it varies by cruise, season, and even by dining rotation.

That said, I would guess that on formal night it was around 25% of men in a tux, 30% in a dark suit, 20% in a lighter suit, 15% in sport coat (with or without tie), and 10% who didn't bother at all. On the semi-formal night, fewer people dressed up.

By the way, some people seem to think Palo is a always a formal restaurant. Not really. Palo is a dressy restaurant. Dressy doesn't have to mean formal.

Our first few DCL cruises tuxes were the norm for formal night but this last one we were disappointed. I was raised that formal was a tux and semi-formal was a suit not a sport coat. It does vary from cruise to cruise. My husband will always were a tux on formal night and a suit on semi-formal. If we were to dine in Palo he would wear a sportcoat or his suit once again. I would wear what you feel the night should be, don't be surprised to see a few in shorts even though shorts are not suppose to be worn in the dining rooms. Also I did observe a lot of women were dressed nicer than their husbands! Picture this, a woman in a nice long formal gown with a husband in a sportcoat with no tie. It just looked strange. Kathy
