Hi,

As I have never been to the States at all was just looking for a bit of advice about tipping. I don't expect details of how much people tip as I know it is personal but just about who and when you should tip... We are using the Honeymoon Gift card and planning on charging as much as possible to the room so won't be taking too much cash hence why I need some help! :goodvibes

I've seen posts about envelopes for housekeeping - are they special envelopes??? Also as we are the GF which has turndown should you leave tips twice a day??

Any info would be great!

Have you seen Dibb guide to tipping? might be one on here somewhere, someone will post if there is.

Personally I don't generally tip in rooms, except on a cruise when we get looked after. If I get more than my bed made and a quick vac I will tip, basic service I won't.

There are designs for 'Mouse-keeping' envelopes that you can use, but as long as you make it clear the money is for the maid then they will take it. I had never thought about tipping for turn-down service - we didn't at our hotel in Disneyland.

Generally you tip in bars (at the bar or if you are being served at a table), porters, servers in restaurants and taxi drivers. Basically anybody providing a service for you.
