We are going to Disney May 17 to May 24 and are travelling with my parents. My mom had hip replacement surgery a few years back and though she can walk she has a slight limp and would never be able to do the walking Disney entails. She is going to rent an ECV from an outside company to have delivered. How soon before the trip do we need to do this? Do you have to pay for it up front? Any help on how this works would be greatly appreciated as this is new to us.

I would suggest making the reservation at least a full week in advance. I often would set up my rental at least a month out.

The company policies tend to vary, but most will charge the full rental fee the day prior to arrival date.

If you check in the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of the thread list on this board, there are links to the companies that DIS posters have recommended most often over the years. There are links to the websites for those companies and they should be able to answer your questions.

We did it the last time the day we checked in. We stayed at OKW and the CMs at the hospitality house gave us the info on the outside company. My inlaws were not arriveing until the next day. It was there. We arrived around 11 am. The evc was there by 3pm. I drove it to our unit so it was waiting for my father inlaw the next morning when he got there. He has a heart condition and things are slow going for him. He had a valve replacement last February. We are going again the end of April early May and he will be joining us again. I plan on calling a week before. That is more than enough time.

We have used Walker Mobility 3 times and have always had good service. We give them our credit card number when we call to reserve a week or two ahead of our trip. I found out this time that if you don't need the ecv until after 3:00 p..m. the first day, they will only charge for a half day, there half day starts at 3:00 p.m. You would have to work that out with them though. We needed it at noon however so we rented it for the full day. It is great to have the ecv there when you arrive at your resort so you can start using it right away at your resort. Have fun
