We are headed to Hilton Head Island. We are due to check in at 4pm on Saturday, May 28th. We were going to leave NJ at 3am Saturday morning and hoped to arrive by 4-5pm. Then I started doing research and found that traffic is terrible during check-in time when getting on the island.
We wanted to do a day trip in Savannah and I thought about leaving Friday and checking into a hotel in Savannah Friday night. This would allow us to do some sightseeing on Saturday before heading over to HHI.
Memorial Weekend traffic can be terrible in NJ and I imagine it is similar in other parts of the country. We will be taking I-95 South. Should we leave at 3-4am on Friday morning and plan to arrive in Savannah between 4-5pm? Do you think we will miss the Memorial weekend rush? Should we keep our original plans and just leave for HHI early Saturday morning arriving early evening? This would force us to take a day out of our week (leaving Thursday, June 3) for a trip to Savannah. What do you think?
