If you Had to go durring a school vacation which would you choose and why? We'd like to go for a week rather than a long weekend, but are considering Thanksgiving break. Any time of year you would absolutely Not go? We're having a hard time deciding when to go next and dh is now a teacher so we're bound by school vacation times. Any advice/suggestions?

Thanks,
Amy

If we had to use the my DD's school vacation...it would have to be her Spring break week (Easter). It's in the month of April and the weather is fabulous. Not hot and not cold.

For us, it is summer. We go the first week in June while the Florida kids are still in school.

Spring Break would be nice, but it is peak season and the crowds can be rediculous. Not to mention, costs are higher. (Of course, we all use discount codes these days)

We do not get a fall break and I do not think I would ever do Christmas again. Just did not feel like Christmas to me.

Thank you for your responses. Dh and my parents are pushing for Christmas. I think they really won't be prepared for the crowds. I'll have to start finding tips for managing crowds now no matter when we go I guess. I suppose I was hoping everyone'd say,"You know we go durring the ---- break and it is never crowded." :rotfl: Oh well. Our school system doesn't let out until the end of June. We get two weeks at Christmas though, so I suppose that is a good time. Do most schools get a February break? I bet I'd love the weather in Feb.

bytheblood, were you there for Christmas Day? I won't go Christmas break unless we arrive the 26th, because it just won't be Christmas unless we're home.

Is Easter break the worst "Spring Break" week crowd-wise?

Summertime. definately. Christmas and spring break are the peak season of the wdw year.

in the summer, all the parks are open real late, so you can easily walk away from a park during the afternoon, miss the crowds and heat, then return in the evening and still get everything done.

We are going this Christmas, but arriving December 18 and checking out on December 23. We are hoping that we will get to enjoy the Christmas magic before it gets to crowded and then be home in time for Christmas Eve.

Hope it works out, since this is our first year doing this it may be wishful thinking!

I am a teacher too and my summer runs from the beginning of July until the first day after labor day. The first year we went, my husband couldn't take holidays until the last week of August. It was hot - but we were impressed with how not bad the crowds were. The next year we went with friends in July - it was hot and unbelievably crowded! 90 minute waits! Now we always go the last week of August. It is hot, but the crowds are light (er) and we can usually manage to book at least part of our reservation on value season rates. And, I always make sure that I spend the week(s) before we go getting all my school stuff ready, so I can enjoy myself. It's something to look forward to all summer and it nice to have all that fun before school starts.

Summer would be best if your family likes to swim and you want to avoid the large crowds around Easter and Christmas. I'd suggest going as early or as late as possible during your summer break to avoid the largest crowds.
