My plans are up in the air and trying to commit to a plan be the end of the month. Just to make things clear a mud, the friends in my siggy have things going on that will keep them home (one ttc and the other is cash flow). So I figured I'd take my nephew which extended to 2 nephews and now a whole family affair which gets tricky with scheduals since the oldest is in college, the middle nephew is in high school, and the baby will be in kindergarten. My ideal was going to be April 30-May 8th, 2010 which seems to be around the time when they do testing so pulling them out then might be an issue. I am hoping I can confirm testing dates next week when teachers go back. Anyway, I am dreaming of managable crowds to lower crowds and tempature/weather. Here are the school scheduals so far:

College:
Spring Break March 15-19 with classes ending on May 22(the baby's birthday)

High School/Elementary:
Spring Break April 5-9 with school out June 9. Testing occuring end of April to early May.

So what week will be the best for 2010?

When is Easter? It's usually the most crowded the week before and the week after. You'll hit spring break crowds from mid-February until after Easter, but it won't be as bad as those two weeks.

It will be interesting to see if attendance figures are high through the spring; they've apparently been lower this year, so maybe you won't have to deal with really bad crowds either way.

Since I can't imagine missing a week of HS, never mind a week of college, I'd go in June.

Easter is April 4th.

I understand missing a week of school is not ideal. But some family members can't handle the weather if it is too hot. The 5 yrs. old pukes regulary do to allergies and doesn't seam to be able to regulate his body temp and will throw up if he gets over heated. The college student is on meds. that I believe to cause him issues in hot weather plus he lives in Chicago so he is use to cooler temps. He dying here last week when he visited. We have dry heat which is bad enough but the humitity is no fun. I have been to FL and OK during the summer and thought FL was worst of the 2 states and I was 40lbs. thinner in FL.

Sometimes it's not only not ideal, it's not even possible. Are they okay with the idea of missing a week of school?

I think it depends on the schools which I would miss. Does the high school have strict attendance rules?

My oldest is taking community college classes and each teacher decides the attendance policy for the class. She had one class where if you missed more than TWO sessions your grade would be knocked down. Unless you were deathly ill you better be there. She missed too many days and got a B instead of an A. She was mad but won't make that mistake again:mad:

I understand not liking the heat and crowds but I would do June and take breaks in the afternoon.

I had him talk to his school counselor last year and there didn't seem to be a problem but I will not pull him out during testing. I know he is capable of making it what he may miss.

This is why I am considering going during his spring break since it isn't as close to Easter. He is transfering from NSU to CSU because if health issues and needs to be closer to family.

I would go during the college break. IMO it would be easier for the high school student to make up the work than the college student.
