When to Go to HHI?

Trying to plan for next year. I had originally thought we would go in October, but now I'm thinking June. When would you go?

If you are looking for the "complete beach experience" I would go sometime from late April -September. Weather in October can be unpredictable in that area.

It sounds like, for the best research results, you need to go both times and decide for yourself which is preferrable Of course, I'd recommend going either time-you can't go wrong.

I have only been to HHI, and I LOVED it there at that time. I like warm weather! That's why I am thinking of switching it to June. Won't it be warmer in June than in October? I guess I am just concerned about crowds. Would it already be super crowded June 5-9, or does it get more crowded as the summer goes on?

Yes it does get more crowded; near end of June East coast schools break for summer and this past summer we found it difficult to get reservation we wanted for mid-August. Usually by late August crowds become lighter.

We haven't been in October but have gone last week of May and weather was just as hot as anytime we've gone during July or August. One of our favorite trips was first week of March (low crowds), although it may have been too cool for ocean or pool; not sure because we didn't swim (tshirts during day, light jacket evening)

Yes, June will be warmer than October.

It will only be 90 degrees the first week in October.

We had a very long HOT Summer in the South this year!

The problem with June is that it may be hot enough to fry eggs on the sidewalk.

If you like your weather unbearably hot, then, pick June.

If you want cooler weather, then October is for you.

June here in the Low Country is hot muggy and buggy. October is much nicer.

We just spent a few days at HHI (Oct 4-6) and the temps were perfect. Warm days, cool nights.

It may be a moot point as my understanding is that summer months can be hard to book at HH unless booked at the 11 month mark. You've only got a couple of weeks to try for your June trip before it opens up at the 7 month mark.

I'd call right away and see if June is available and book it. Then change it later if you decide to switch to October.

I realize the 7-month mark is getting ready to open up. The plan is for me to buy more points on November 2 and then book something as soon as the points are in the system (1 day at the most). I will be trying for a 2-BR so it should be easier to get it.

As far as temperatures, I have been both times in July and felt that the weather was nice. I know it's hot and humid, but with all the big oak trees, I just don't feel miserable. There were only a couple of times that I felt really uncomfortable--once on a dolphin tour and once when we were hiking through one of the forest preserves. I DON'T like cold weather, and I am very cold-natured. We were at WDW a couple of weeks ago, and the highs were in the low 80's. I was fine until I got wet (water park/rides) and then I was miserable!!!! Teeth-chattering, goosebumps, the whole nine yards... It just got me thinking that HHI in October (where weather underground shows that most times the highs don't get above 85 and sometimes even high 70s) will be similar.

Does anyone know how the off-shore fishing compares between June and October? My boys will be doing an excursion.

Just don't book our room as we are waiting for the 7 month mark to return. We were just there for 1 night/2 days and it was awesome. So awesome that my wife (who hates the beach) told me we need to go back.
