Hi everyone. I'm a west coast person but hear wonderful things about HHI. What time of year is nicest there?

It may depend on how you want to define "nicest". :teeth:

For ocean swimming, May - October would be "nicest". To avoid crowds, September - February would be "nicest". To enjoy professional golf tournaments, April would be nicest (the Heritage Classic starts this Thursday). For warm weather, May - October would be "nicest". For cool weather, December - February would be "nicest".

We have enjoyed HH at all times of the year and every season has something to offer. For all around pleasant temps, minimal crowds and maximum available activities, March - May and September - mid November are our favorite times to be here - but we also really enjoy early morning walks on the beach followed by an ocean swim (water temps in the mod-80s) in June, July, August and September. Even December - February, while the weather is a bit more unpredictable, are great because the crowds are low, many restaurants offer specials and it's a great time for side trips into Savannah, Charleston or just exploring Hilton Head itself.

I think that January - December are "nicest". :teeth: :teeth:

Any time you can get a room at Hilton Head is the "nicest" time to go!

We LOVE this resort and will add on some points here as soon as we can. It can be very difficult to get a room here, especially in the summer as it is growing in popularity.

Thank you for the good replies! I can see that I need to figure out when I can get a room as well as what we want to do. I think nice weather is big for me. I didn't realize the ocean was so warm. Used to live in Hawaii and ocean temps were 80s as well. :goodvibes

Another question: Is HHI easier to get than VB in summer (say late June)? Which should I try for first? We like beaches, sand, swimming, walks, taking nature pics, exploring local hidden gems, are in late 40s. What do you think?

You make me laugh, Doc. You need to just move there! :goodvibes

I don't know if HHI is harder or easier to get in the summertime than Vero, but for taking nature pictures, exploring nature, it's fantastic! We're birders (well, primarily me, but DH is primarily the nature photographer). I recommend a trip over to Sea Pines Forest Preserve for nature watchers or just right around the resort.

Last year we went over Halloween weekend using a Disney Visa discount. We had a great time in Savannah and a great time on HHI. It was the perfect time for us and we would go again that time for sure. The only bad thing was watching the Phillies lose the ballgame.

Our 1 and only trip (so far) to HHI was end of April-beginning of May of last year. We thought it was perfect! The beach was wonderful and very uncrowded, and so was the resort. We rented bikes from the resort for the week and really enjoyed the bike trails all over HHI as well as riding around the resort. My hubby does not like hot weather so it was just right for us - 70's the whole week. We daytripped to Savannah and Charleston while there. We are planning to go back every other year if we can book if at 7 months, but the CM told us it should be easy at that time of year or Sept/Oct.
