when to go solo?!!!?

My wonderful and loving DH has offered me a birthday gift I may not be able to refuse! Actually, he offered me a choice: new furniture (much needed) for our living room

OR

a solo trip to WDW!

Which would you choose??????


Now, naturally this is more about budget than choice, so no doubt I will try to do both. The most budget friendly option would be for me to pitch a tent in FtW. So the real question becomes.....

When should I go???????


We are already planning a grand gathering for December, so I won't want to go too close to that trip. The rest of the year is open and not connected to the date of my birthday which is January 6 (the Epiphany) for anyone who wishes to send gifts..er...blessings !

I think I would shoot for either just before or just after spring breaks. The weather will be a little warmer if you wait till after but either will have smaller crowds.

I would have the furniture, if your going for a grand gathering in December, you will basically get both.

But if you really wanted to go by yourself I would go in early April ,we went last year and the weather was beautiful, no rain and the crowds were not really to steep.

For me it would be October. Food & Wine Festival!!!! Wandering the booths and going to the seminars without worrying about other folks "food" phobias.

I would go when it's cool at night and not too cold during the day. I don't see much difference in bringing the pop up down as far as fuel. How much more can it cost? I would bring a bike as well.

DD is getting to that age where I might have to do some solo trips. I might just see a pop up in my future lol.

I know you said December was out, but my only solo trip was in December 1998 for the RADP Annual Holiday Meet (now known as MouseFest), and I had a ball! There were many meets to take part in with friends and in between those meets, I could be alone. It really was a liberating experience to go solo at WDW. My husband always walks faster than I do and it was wonderful being able to slow down and do exactly what I wanted to do at any given moment. I could ride the same ride over again, I could eat wherever I felt like eating, without taking anyone else into consideration. I envy you because I doubt I'll ever take another solo trip. Since that first and only solo trip, my husband has also been bitten by the Disney bug and insists on going on every trip with me. Be careful what you wish for....hehe.

OOOh, I would love that! I have never been in October and have always wanted to do the F & W festival! We ate our way through Epcot this last time and it was so much fun! Funny, though, my DDs didn't help me eat the tabouli and couscous from Morracco!?!

Love our pop-up!!!! You wouldn't be sorry! Even with your DD there is plenty of room (ours has a potty and shower, too for emergencies!). The bike is a definate. One of our best days in WDW was the day we explored FtW and WL on our bikes!

Thank you so much for sharing! As much as I know I would love and get so much out of WDW on my own, I can't help thinking that I would continualy be saying to myself, "My girls would love this!" or "I wish DH was here to share this with me."

This will most likely be my one and only solo trip; I need to listen to your experience!

We ALL know Im a strange individual, and maybe I have some abandonment issues.....but I cant see myself enjoying a solo trip to Disney. I LOVE DISNEY because it gives me a chance to be my kids' age WITH my kids, and thats he only reason I really exist is my family. Who do you talk about the days activities with at the end of the day if you're alone? Who do you get to make fun of because they nearly pee'd their pants from Expedition Everest? Who's going to tell you not to buy that giant dianosaur at the gift shop outside of the ride because "You're a 39 yr old man, why do you really need a giant stuffed animal, and dont even try to tell me its for the girls!!"? This is just my opinion, and everyone has one, and, yes, I know Im not you're average Joe....but GIVE ME A NEW LEATHER COUCH SET AND A 75gal SALT WATER AQUARIUM ANYDAY!!!

Ok Rog, you obviously didn't read my last post~geez, I was just starting to get over that stuff! really, though, I am a WDW lover!!!!! I love the attention to detail, the hammock on the beach at sunset, the quietness as you walk through a resort garden and feel like it is all there for you and only you. Yes, it would be better to share it with one child at a time, but I can't choose just one child. I've been to WDW with just DH, and poor guy, as wonderful as he is, he just doesn't "get it." The rides and theme parks are wonderful, but my favorite is everything else and I can enjoy "everything else" on my own, at my own pace.

I love being by myself, but couldn't imagine going on vacation alone. I may have to try it.

I ask you, is that any way to live???

So .... here's how you can have the best of both...

Be on the look-out for used furniture that will look good but you don't care if the kiddies spill their kool-aid on. (Around here there are gobs of people who re-decorate once a year & sell their basically unused furniture for a song!)

Book your solo trip to WDW (at FtW, of course) and enjoy!!

I can see Roger's point about the "who ya gonna reminisce with" about the days activities - however - sometimes you don't care about making memories - you just need some time to chill-out & do whatever you want.

I would really suggest the first part of February while the crowds are low & so are the temps and humidity. That is also a value rate time period. The F&W Festival is a lot of fun, but the crowds are unbelievable and the weather is still hot & muggy.

ooh you are so lucky! I had a solo trip once, 5 years ago. I would love another one. It's hard to explain, but it's wonderful. Sometimes you wish you had someone to share things with, but mostly it's freedom, and peacefulness.

I think the best time to go is early May. The weather is beautiful, the crowds are small. Epcot has the flower & garden festival.

Wow, the thought of going somewhere without the two kids (DS4 and DH) is sooo appealing, however, I would terribly miss them, even though they wear me out. I really do need a vacation from my winter break. Don't know what to tell you...if you can survive without worrying about the youngin's, I say go, but there is no reason to go if you are constantly thinking about somewhere else.

OMG! I would pick the solo trip and go now! I would feel really guilty at first about leaving my 9 and 2 yo home, but get over it just as quick. I wish, oh how I wish, my hubby would make that offer to me. LOL
