When to go in June?

Thanks. Good info.

Something else I guess I need to ask about, weather in June. Is it fairly similar over the month? or does it get a lot hotter as the month goes on?

The Resort we are looking at is Disneyland Hotel, to distance ourselves from the similar to WDW resorts, GCH.

I was looking at the grad night info and didn't like how many nights it was going on the week we are looking at.

I hate the thought of moving the trip to even later but if the benefits are good enough it's worth it to wait a couple more weeks. I'll check the air prices for that week too.

For weather data see "Detailed Weather Data for DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=23004158

June is know for June gloom - morning marine layer clouds which often dissipates into afternoon sunshine. There should be that big a difference between early and late June. Maybe a few degrees on average. I think June is a fine time to go. Weather is not at its hottest and if you can navigate the grads and blockouts - and even if you can't - it is pretty nice time of year.

:wizard:

As far as Grad Nights go, looks like later in June would be the time to go to avoid them.

I actually had my dates wrong...we could possibly be in So. California anywhere between June 6 and June 24.

What about crowds in general in early June vs late June. I know schools in some areas don't start summer break until mid-June. But then there are the AP holders. Is it better to go on the days when So. Cal. AP holders are blocked out, or not blocked out?

Anyone have an idea why the So. Cal. AP holders are blacked out Thur, Fri, Sat and Sun during June 17th - 20th next year, but only blacked out Fri and Sat the two weeks prior and the week after? Is something scheduled that week?

What about

I am also wondering about this. 4 out of 5 of our days in our trip fall into this period. I am hoping it will less crowded during this period because of the blockout, but maybe not if there is a special event?

On another thread someone posted that the GCH is sold out June 18 but not the day before or after. I'm guessing there's something special going on!

I think that you should go on the earlier dates in June that you mentioned. We went during that same timeframe 2 yr ago and it was great. The grad nights were not a nightmare like people made it out to be. It helped that we didn't go into DCA on those evenings. Most southern CA schools are not done with the school year yet, so the majority of tourists will be from other states. Yes, you will likely have LA and Orange County residents going a lot in the evening during the week, but that is still manageable if you get there for rope drop and do a bunch of rides earlier in the day.

The weather in June is nice....overcast in the am and it burns off. When it burns off varies based on the marine layer and how warm it is going to be that day. We didn't really need sweatshirts until the sun went down.

Yes that is true. Today I called and tried to book GCH for June 16, 17 and 18 and was told the 18th is not available. So I booked June 15, 16, and 17 instead. However that means going to the parks on 16 which is a non-blockout day for So Cal AP's. I'll keep checking to see if the 18th opens up.

If there is an event on June 17 or 18, I'm sure having a hard time finding any info about what it might be.

I'm still struggling with dates. The issue is later in June will cost us nearly $1000 more, between increases in flights and resort rates. Is avoiding grad nights worth that much money? When we have 5 days (with hoppers) in the parks? Noise won't be an issue as we are not in GCH. We should be able to work night time events in around the Grad Nights. But, if it is truly worth the extra costs to go later in June we can do it. Just trying to make sure it is truly worth it

Really only you can decide if avoiding grad nights is worth that much money. I've written about our grad night experience on these boards a few times. Four day trip, three grad nights. I was really worried about it. Turned out to be no problem. If I hadn't known they were grad nights I might not even have noticed...we were busy having fun ourselves.

Good luck with your decision. If you go late June, we'll be there, too!

We've gone during Grad Night weekends and to be honest the only difference we found was - as HydroGuy said - the GCH was noisier than usual. The teens came in late and were loud, but we had Park View rooms and didn't hear the Grad Night outside.

(Funny story- I went to get coffee very early in the morning and noticed blue tape on a lot of the hotel room doors in my hallway and was confused until my cousin who is a teacher informed me the chaperones do this in order to know if the teens have snuck out of their rooms. And they use a different color each night so the kids can't replace the tape :duck: What a good idea! )

We DID have a busy busy busy pool at GCH by the afternoon because a couple groups weren't going into the park and were hanging out poolside instead but a CM let me know this was rare as most school groups/Grad Night attendees go back home the next morning.

From my experience MOST GN attendees stay off-site so you may want to call your hotel and ask about the potential noise.

I wouldn't worry about Grad Night necessarily if it saves you $1,000.
