When to go for first trip in June?

We have decided to do something different this year and go to Disneyland for the first time instead of WDW. We want to go in June after the 5th but having trouble deciding when to go. I want to avoid Grad Nights and also want to go when some of the annual pass holders are blacked out. There are so many annual passes it makes my head spin. My major worry is the crowds. Is it better to go on a weekend or weekday? Do the blackout dates really effect the crowds? Is it worth the trip coming clear from the east coast? We will probably purchase a city pass and go to Disneyland for 3 days. I need a Disneyland veterans help!! Does anyone have any dates in mind avoiding grad nights and trying to go when some passholder are blacked out? Thanks!
