Newbie here -- actually returning to the DIS after a 10 year hiatus! :yay:
We just decided we are Disney bound and our dates are July 3 - 9, 2010. This is my first trip to Disney since 2000 -- and I feel like I am really behind the 8 ball since we have nothing planned yet for meals!!!
Our party consists of me and DH + DDs ages 17,13,10 & 10. We are staying at OKW. It is first time visit for the two 10 year olds. I have a couple of meal related questions...things have changed around here in 10 years!!!

DD loves Piglet so the only character meal we are planning to do is CP. None of us have ever been there.
1. Should we do breakfast or lunch? I was leaning towards breakfast but then was worried about getting in those early morning rides before the crowds.

2. LTT or Tonys? I like LTT better but my 13 year old still remembers the "the pizza shaped like Mickey Head." Which would be better for the ages of my kids?? I was planning to do a lunch.

3. Best place to go for Bday? (Not character meal) DD turns 17 the day before we arrive and I was thinking of going some place special for her on the 3rd, the day we arrive. Thought of Whispering Canyon?? Either the meal or we could go in to MK and see the FW. Thoughts???

Thanks in advance!

1. Should we do breakfast or lunch? I was leaning towards breakfast but then was worried about getting in those early morning rides before the crowds. I like both, but for a slower experience (= more character time/interaction), I'd recommend either a late breakfast/brunch (10:30-11) or a late lunch (after 2:30). I think the CP is particularly lovely in sunshine, and when the dining room is not full to capacity...

2. LTT or Tonys? I like LTT better but my 13 year old still remembers the "the pizza shaped like Mickey Head." Which would be better for the ages of my kids?? I was planning to do a lunch. For lunch, I would choose LTT. I don't specifically remember Mickey-head pizza at Tony's (was it on the kid's menu?), but then it has been a while (at least 3 years) since I was at Tony's myself, so maybe I just don't remember it.

3. Best place to go for Bday? (Not character meal) DD turns 17 the day before we arrive and I was thinking of going some place special for her on the 3rd, the day we arrive. Thought of Whispering Canyon?? Either the meal or we could go in to MK and see the FW. Thoughts??? I think that depends on the mortification quotient in regards to your teenager. If she gets embarrassed easily, WCC is probably not the best spot for her birthday dinner... If you're looking for something in the MK area, there is the buffet at 1900 Park Fare (Prince Charming included), the Wave at the Contemporary (nice, modern, more 'adult'), and Kona at the Polynesian. Since you're looking at such a busy week and the ADR window has already been open for months, at this point it may be more a question of where you can get a reservation, as opposed to where you actually want to book...

Thanks in advance!

Have a great return trip!

1. Should we do breakfast or lunch? I was leaning towards breakfast but then was worried about getting in those early morning rides before the crowds. My advice would be to do breakfast and make a reservation before the park officially opens. The earliest reservation is 8:00, that way not only do you get a wonderful breakfast you can enjoy an almost empty main street :cloud9: and get in all the photo ops

2. LTT or Tonys? I like LTT better but my 13 year old still remembers the "the pizza shaped like Mickey Head." Which would be better for the ages of my kids?? I was planning to do a lunch. I don't think they do the Mickey Pizza anymore :( I think either will be enjoyable for different reasons, maybe have a look at the menu's on allears.net and see what would appeal to your family most

3. Best place to go for Bday? (Not character meal) DD turns 17 the day before we arrive and I was thinking of going some place special for her on the 3rd, the day we arrive. Thought of Whispering Canyon?? Either the meal or we could go in to MK and see the FW. Thoughts??? Well Im 20 and I am paticularly looking forward to doing Ohana, Boma (I like spicy food), CRT (I know Im 20 but I still love it :lovestruc) and Kona. If your thinking of getting her a cake from the Disney cake ordered I suggest eating at the GF as their bakery does the yummiest cakes :)

Thanks in advance!

Happy Planning and Im sure whatever you choose it will be magical :wizard:

I have done an early breakfast before park opening (that may be hard to get now) and an early lunch. I prefer the early lunch. You do not feel as rushed to get out the door .... sometimes it takes a while for all the characters to come around to you.
2. LTT or Tonys? I like LTT better but my 13 year old still remembers the "the pizza shaped like Mickey Head." Which would be better for the ages of my kids?? I was planning to do a lunch. Trying Tony's for my June trip but until then I have not done either so .... But ... both get mixed reviews.

Thought of Whispering Canyon?? Either the meal or we could go in to MK and see the FW. Thoughts??? I have an 18 year old niece and the things she is most excited about or requested as far as dining are CRT, Prime Time Cafe and the Princess Breakfast. She has a horrible memory so the fact that she asked for Prime Time Cafe this time is saying a lot!!!Oh I almost forgot...she LOVES the Luau! She is like "We Gotta do the Luau" but she is a dancer so maybe that has something to do with it.

Thanks in advance!

I am sure no matter what you choose you will have a magical time!

I agree that there may be better choices for a 17 y.o bday. The Wave was the first thing to come to mind. Excellent food, cool atmosphere, more subduded/adult environment.

1900 Park Fare dinner is also very nice. While it has characters (Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine & step sisters) it has a fancy/special feel (it's at the Grand Floridian after all) and the buffet is very nice. Plus you could order the Glass Slipper Dessert here! Delicious and only $15!!

Have a great time! :wizard:
