Once my "walking" res enters into the days I want, can I cancel all the days I don't want even if that puts me under 7 days?

I will still call back everyday to add on days as the calendar allows.

Not clear on what you trying to do but when doing walking the designated day of arrival for your trip can never be more than 11 months out from the day you are calling. Thus, for example, if you have as of today Nov 18 to Nov 25 reserved, you could call today (Dec 19) and drop Nov 18 and and/or add Nov 26 but you cannot drop Nov 19 or any days after it yet, but there is no requirement that the reservation that is left be for at least 7 nights.

Please excuse me, I should never post prior to my 2nd cup of coffe.
As soon as I pressed "post" I regretted it.

Yes I am trying to "walk" Thanksgiving week 2013.
I want : 22Nov2013-01Dec2013.
I have: 17Nov2013-26Nov2013

In my c affine deprived state, I thought I could go ahead and drop 17-21Nov2013. But that would have put me under 7 days and not allow me to add the 26th?

Or is it that you can only book upto the 11 month date +7, not that your stay has to be 7 days long through the whole "walking" process?

In other words, the farthest away you are allowed to book is a stay that checks out on the 11 month + 7 days from the booking date - regardless of your arrival date.

Now I'm getting confused again.

If I didn't have 2 bad experiences with waitlists and booking at 11 month to the day, I wouldn't bother.

I'm not an expert but I am in the process of planning to do this for Thanksgiving week 2013 as well, so I will try and respond what I understood it to be and others can chime in as well:

This is my understanding. Your arrival date has to be the 11month and you can stay up to 11month + 7days. It doesn't have to be 7 days, it could be up to 7 days from your arrival date.

In your case:
  • I want : 22Nov2013-01Dec2013.
  • I have: 17Nov2013-26Nov2013

You can call today (and you HAVE to call to walk it), and have them drop 11/17 and 11/18. I'm guessing you booked this today since you have an 11/26 checkout. Curious why you booked those dates you didn't need. Or maybe you booked starting 2 days ago (11/17 to 11/24), and just added days but did not drop days?

You'd have to do this everyday until you hit checkout day of 12/1. On 12/20, drop 11/19, add 11/26. On 12/21, drop 11/20, add 11/27. On 12/22, drop 11/21, add 11/28. On 12/23, add 11/29. On 12/24, add 11/30.

Others say you can wait until the end, i.e., 12/24 and drop 11/17 - 11/21 and add 11/26 - 11/30 but I'm not sure if that's as guaranteed as walking it everyday.

Look at it this way when walking: when you get off the phone with MS on any day you are changing the reservation your designated date of arrival after you hang up can be no more than 11 months from the the date you are calling AND the the designated date of departure can be no more than 11 months plus 7 days from the date you are calling. Thus, the only way you can possibly make a reservation today (Dec 19) that includes days after Nov 19 is one for which you have Nov 19 still reserved and the date of departure can be no later than Nov 26. Thus it would have been impossible today to call and drop Nov 18 through 21 while retaining any days thereafter. When you call tomorrow, Dec 20, you can drop Nov 19 but you still must keep Nov 20 to maintain any part of the reservation for any days after Nov 20 and tomorrow you will also be able to change the departure date to Nov 27 but not beyond that.

Thus, on Dec 19, today, you cannot possibly have any reservation after getting off the phone with MS where the arrival date is Nov 20 or later or the departure date is Nov 27 or later but you can have one where the arrival date is Nov 19 and the departure date is any day from Nov 20 to Nov 26.

Thank you. I get it now.
This time of year my brain is reluctant to do any heavy lifting.
