when to cancel football practice?

I'm concerned with heat and humidity, as opposed to just heat alone.

We visited Phoenix when I was 8 months pregnant, temps were in the low 100's, and the heat didn't bother me too badly because of the low humidity.

Here, in Pa, the temperatures in the 90's combined with our humidity are awful!

I don't know, though, if the humidity is taken into consideration ever at practices?

Ours is because they use the heat index. Anything over 100 practice is cancelled. Anything over 95, no pads and water break every 15 minutes for 5 minutes.

Our band used a wet bulb thermometer to measure the humidity. Over a certain amount and they had to go indoors.

We live in the South where the summers are continually hot - and humid. School districts set safety guidelines and teams have to adhere to it. It is usually extreme though to cancel any practices. What someone said upthread is true, its so hot all the time, that if they cancelled, they would never get to play anything. You'd end up cancelling the entire season. At some point, you get out there, and practice with mega breaks for water and shade.

OP, you really should talk to the coach and explain the absenses. He should hear this from you being the parent. It would be a good time to talk about the precautions taken when practicing in the heat.
