Hi,
We will be going to Disneyworld in July and will be there during the 4th. When would you buy plane tickets-now or in the next month or two? Thanks!

Linda

you actually have some time to play with here. I would suggest purchasing them no later than begin of may. they might have a fare out in april but more than likely it won't be out until may. but remember that no matter when you purchase it if the price goes down you may get that amount refunded to you in the form of a voucher to be used on another flight.

I usually wait until spring, but considering that you're leaving around the 4th, it wouldn't hurt to start checking the travel boards. I am going on July 14 and the flight I wanted to be on has already sold out! So now I will have to take a later flight or another day. With Delta being unstable right now, I'm trying to avoid them, so cuts down my options. Good Luck, and be flexible around the holiday travel period.

I am not sure where you are from but it has been my experience with the Philly airports that around the spring break time the rates go up and then they fall after Easter. Keep checking the travel boards and if the airline you like has a website check frequently.

We bought our tickets for the July 4th week back in September. Paid $179 R/T nonstop exact times we wanted on Delta. Bought early because I have watched the rates a few years, and the earliest possible to buy them is usually the cheapest for me. We have very specific dates and times we want to fly, so I'm not too flexible.
Don't wait too long though.

Listing your departure city is key. It's too early to purchase your tickets because that's a Southwest-compete route and Southwest is not yet selling July travel. They should be any time now, though, so my suggestion is that you subscribe to their weekly notification of Internet specials because they may put that route on, in which case, you could get a fare much lower than what is available today.

For example, the last time Southwest put that route on an Internet special it was $61 each way plus tax, or about $130 roundtrip. Compare that to the regular advance purchase fare of about $190.

I think waiting until May is too late. The likelihood of getting the lowest fare on your preferred flights is diminished if you wait until then. I would finalize my plans no later than mid-March. As was previously said, if the fare goes down you can get a credit for future use on that airline, but at least with Southwest, the credit must be used no later than one year from when the ticket was originally purchased. But the good thing about Southwest is that credit money is fully transferable. You can sell it to anyone. That does not violate any Southwest rule.

I use Travelocity's FareWatcher. Yesterday, when I got the e-mail that prices dropped from $350 to $240, I bought them right away!!!! While I'm not ecstatic about $240, it's only $20 more than the most I've ever paid...

I don't know if this is true, but I did hear that gas prices would be going up again, which means airlines will charge more!

JODYCAT,

Dont know how you feel about USAIR, but we travel from Baltimore also. We got 155 round trip in March. Right now the lowest is 198 round trip with those travel dates (July). I would keep checking back though as these change as date get closer. Also, like one of the other posters stated, Southwest has not released July dates yet so that is worth wating to see. You can subscribe to their Email which come out every tuesday with great fares for various cities. Go to www.southwest.com and go under CLick and Save.

USair has quite a few direct flights if that is important to you (we have little ones so it was) Southwest has a few also.

Hope this helps

Hi, I travel from NY and I almost always purchase my tickets 6 to 4 months in advance. I surf the internet everyday, first thing in the morning and once more in the evening.......it's amazing how much the prices change from morning till evening and day to day. I then become familar with what is the average rate, what is a good rate and what I can't pass up. Also, I never knew till during my recent purchase of tickets that there are internet only specials. I went on-line one mornig in January and got an internet only special on USAIR.com for $151.00 including tax round-trip from NY to Orlando. I called and tried to get the rate over the phone but, was told that rate was only on-line I then purchased and went to USAIR.com again in the evening and the rate was up to $181.00 w/tax. So, keep checking and comparing rates on all possible airlines. Leaving on Wednesday is always a cheaper rate as well.

Here are a few you can try:
Lowestfare.com
Cheaptickets.com
Expedia.com
Travelocity.com
Flycheap.com
and any airline of your perference .com.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I am also a New Yorker and always try to buy my tickets in advance. I find the prices to be better when they first come out. I bought my tickets for a late June trip to disney back in December of this year. Hope that helps you out and good luck.
