When to buy AP

I'm planning a trip to Florida in January through February and would like to buy the Annual pass for universal.
Can I buy it now or should I wait in January? Not sure if the pass is valid from Jan 1st to Dec 31 or is it good for 12 months from the time of purchase?

But now so you’re protected if prices increase. I know I’m not going back until next August, but I bought our passes over the summer. My suggestion is to buy through a travel agent. Costs you nothing extra and helps out a small business. In my case, UO unexpectedly raised prices in July or August, but TAs were still able to access the old pricing for a day or two, so I got a discount (sort of) and the TA got the commission.
