We've got HBO for free this week and I Tivo'd this. I've watched the first hour so far. It's not what I thought it would be. I really thought it would be more about the racial divide but instead Spike Lee has shown the devastation to all people regardless of color.

Troubling and heartbreaking, it really is something every American should see.

I thought the whole series was beautifully made and Spike Lee should win some type of award for it. If you have only seen the first hour wait until you see the rest. It is heart wrenching and on some parts very graphic. (dead bodies are shown)

I've made it through about 3 hours of it so far - it's too emotional to watch all in one sitting (I tivo'd it as well) I plan on putting it on DVD to keep forever. I thought it was well done. Very sad, but very honest. When I get to the parts that I think are too sad to watch, I remind myself that the people in the documentary didn't have the option of shutting it off, or fast forwarding thru the sad/hard parts. :sad2:

It is good. It took me weeks to get through it though. Much of it is so distressing.

I haven't seen it yet, but I would like to and know that I probably should. I don't think I'm emotionally ready just yet- any Katrina documentary causes me severe emotional distress. Even over a year later, the wounds are still too fresh... :guilty:

I can see why you're not ready yet since you're from New Orleans. Many people in NY feel the same way about the documentary/movies/books etc... about 9/11.
A zillion years ago (I'm showing my age here LOL) while in the military, my unit was sent to Jonestown for "clean-up" detail after the masacre/mass suicide. To this day I STILL can't watch any of the movies or read the books about it. It's been over 25 years now, and I should be over it, but I just don't have it in me. Probably never will.
When you're ready you'll know it.

Spike Lee makes the point that this tragedy cut across all ethnic classes. Even the couple I have nicknamed "Thurston Howell and Lovey" have something to add to the mix.

I think his documentary is very well-done, and probably the best of all the ones I've seen. I have not seen part two yet. I can only take Katrina stuff in small doses.

I think when DD is older, this is the one that I will let her see. She will be too young to remember any of what we went through, which is a really good thing!
