Hi, we leave on the 26th of October, the time is now just crawling by. The only thing that keeps me from going stir crazy are these boards.
Anyway my question this time is:- We have not told the children, DD8, DS6, anything about the holiday. You would not believe how hard this has been, not to give it away. Anyway shall we tell them when the taxi arraives to take us to the airport? - a scary 5.30am - or show them the departures board at the airport? I just so want the whole holiday to be magical. Any thoughts, how have you rich regulars done it. Thanks in anticipation. mandy

Mandy how wonderful :) !

It's really up to you but I think I'd tell them before you get in the taxi - you'll probably be chatting with your taxi-driver and it might slip out!

It would be a great way of getting thwm up at that time in the morning too :) !!

I think it's a wonderful surprise - a friend of mine did this with her children and she said the look on their faces was just incredible!

Hi Mandy

I done this with my DH last year (well he is a big kid at heart really) i waited till we got to the airport and he read the departures board his face was a picture i wouldn't have missed it for the world.

We've got a similar dilemma (sp?) as the day we go is actually the kids last day of school.. the head has given permission and will keep quiet... but do we get them up 'for school' and let them get dressed in uniforms before telling them:teeth: or do we tell them the night before?...

When our 3 were younger (all grown up now) they used to enjoy planning the holiday and getting excited just like we did (still do), so keeping it a secret was never an option. Would like to have seen the faces if we had though!

How about telling them the night before that you're all going on holiday (that way they won't mind getting up early) but don't tell them where you're going until you get to the airport.

They might find out at the check-in desk anyway - when we went the lady at the desk asked my daughter if this was the first time she was visiting Mickey Mouse!

For my DDs 10th birthday we got her to the airport under the pretext of my DH going on a business trip then surprised her with her birthday present (trolley case, fully packed) and gave her her birthday card which said, "You are going to Disneyland Paris, NOW!" and we all got on the plane, great excitment. The look on her face was worth the difficulty in keeping the secret.

This Christmas we go to WDW as a surpise for my DSs 10th birthday but we will tell him on his birthday, end Nov, so he can enjoy the last bits of the planning. We still have a surprise for them on Christmas Day - swimming with the dolphins at DC! Looking forward to seeing their faces that day!

You will have a great trip however you decide to tell them.

What a fantastic surprise!

Mike I would get the kids up and keep them in their PJ's give them breakfast and then say OK go and get dressed I've laid your clothes out. And then you could have their clothes on their beds and maybe have a disney t-shirt for them to wear. A clue for them!!

The same applies to Mandy but say the night before we are going somewhere special tomorrow so I have got you a new special outfit, and have disney t-shirts to wear. And then see if they can guess!!

Its going to be amazing however you tell them! But that was the first idea that came into my mind! I haven't got any kids to surprise but am thinking of surprising my mum for her birthday next year (taking her to Disneyland Paris fingers crossed!) And I think I'd do something like this give her a special present something Disney related a soft toy/beanie or a t-shirt.

Let us know how you surprise them.

we also suprised dd2 for her 8th birthday we told her she was going to chester zoo, then she noticed the signs said liverpool and we said we were going a diferent way as we neared the airport we pointed the video camera on her and said we are actully going to dl paris for your birthday, her face was a picture and we got it on film, also mentioned it to cabin crew and the captain announced the story down to chester zoo, then everyone sang happy birthday. magical

Kell-Bell - I like the t shirt idea! Might give that a try!:D Mike.

I would tell them in encourage them to get out of bed at such an early time.

How fantastic that you have kept it so quite for so long.

Have a great holiday.
