and you use your debit card for purchases... do they put a hold on your debit account? How does that work? I just need to plan that in to the budget if they do put a hold... or can i tell them how much to put towards the room, or pay it off daily?
Ugh...i am rambling...

If you want to charge all of your purchases to your room, and then settle up at checkout, they will place a hold on your card according to the hotel - $500 for a value, $1000 for a moderate, $1500 for a deluxe. Once you use up that amount, they will reauthorize your card for the same amount and begin again.

If you just want to use your debit card to buy something in the gift shop, pay for a meal, etc. there are no holds. It would be just like using it for any purchase at home.

I don't know if you can request a different amount. You can pay off your charges each day if you'd like by going to the front desk and paying them. You can use that debit card, another credit card, or cash.

When I go to Disney, I always give my debit card at check in so I can use my ktw for purchases. They do not put a hold on your card for the 500.00 (value resorts) purchase limit until you settle your bill.

If you go in a store and use your debit card, its just like at home, the amt purchased is put on hold.

They have never put a hold on my debit card for any amount. They simply charge your card at the end of your stay or when you hit the pre-set limit at whatever resort you choose (posted previously).

They never had but after the recent fraud news I'm quite sure they will start if they haven't already.

They do NOT put a hold of that amount on the card you have on file. But when you hit that amount they will charge the card on file. Or charge you the night before check out which ever is first.

No hold - there is an amount (as listed above) when they will begin to charge your card and start over but there is absolutely no hold at all on the debit cards.

No hold! When u reach the limit its charged, if u don't reach the limit they charge when u check out!

Also make sure that you call your bank before you leave home and tell them that you'll be out-of-state and using your debit card someplace else besides home. If they suspect that your card is being used fraudulently, they'll shut it down. "says the voice of experience"

I'm sure that's not the first time it's happened. I doubt the one occasion would spark a whole change in policy. At least I hope it doesn't. One of the things I LOVE about going to Disney is that I don't have to stress out over those issues. Hopefully, they will look at the number of people the policy benefits and not change it.:confused3

To answer the OP, they do check to see if the card has access to money, but they check for $1 or something. They won't charge the card until you reach your applicable limit or check out, whichever comes first.

ok, thanks guys, i was only brining 1800 for spending and such and wanted to make sure that i was going to be ok... i wouldn't want them to hold 1000.00 of that...

If I remember correctly, you can also shut off your room charging privileges for yourself or anyone else in your room. Then there should be no problems.

Sorry for the incorrect info - I've never checked my card while at WDW so I assumed they put a hold since they are so specific with the amounts.
