When should I start looking for airfares

We start looking on the actual airlines website along with orbitz, etc. as soon as we make our ressies. Take for example at the 11 month window for the first two weeks in Dec. we started to look (DCL cruise the second week) at flights. When we made ressies for OKW for the first week in Dec., we forgot to check when Thanksgiving was. So to get reasonable flights we will stay off site and fly in on Nov. 30 (Sat.). Also we had to book a return flight on a Sat. no earlier than 12:00 do to the cruise, posed a problem. We were able to select our seats on the airlines website and kept the cost of the flights under $200 (each).

I found the fare! $130 Round-Trip on Delta MSP-MCO throught Atlanta. Sure, there is a stop, but $130 pp!

I didn't read all the responses but here is mine. I bought tickets on Thursday direct flights from Boston to Orlando for $189 which includes all fees. I booked these on the fisrt day they were available for our 2/23-3/1 trip. Last year we waited and couldn't get a flight at the same time under 300 or 325

I know this won't help the Minnesotans, but for all you New Englanders out there, Southwest Airlines out of Manchester, NH has a non-stop that takes 3 hours from Manchester to Orlando, and right now they are having a "friend flies free" special. I looked at dates of June 25 to July 3, and RT for TWO (friend flies free) totals $224. Southwest only books 6 months out, but anyone around here reading this should check it out!

We are in the same situation in Philly, USAIR runs the show, the only competition is Airtran which doens't run as many direct flights. If in that situation I find it pays to book asap. Last week I booked my fares for January 2003 & a last minute decision for a trip in August for 164pp (all included) it's not the best price but that seems to be it right now. I'm really surprised by the August fare b/c of it only being 4 mos out and a Monday to Friday trip! In my experience of going from Philly to Orlando several times a year it pays not to wait!! If the prices go down the flights time are usually not as attractive!
