When should I order our new DDE card?

We let our DDE card lapse in June because we weren't planning on going to WDW for awhile. Now we have decided to go back this October for my DH's birthday...yeah!! Anyway..I remember that we ordered at a certain date during the month to give us until the end of the following month of the following year. We'll be there October 25. Anyone know when to order the card to get the longest use ? Thanks.

This year it is possible to just buy it at Guest Services at any park or DTD ! No need to preorder.

If you buy DDE at WDW it is the same material as an AP. Apparently those who have still ordered by mail are still receiving the plastic DDE.

I'm a little confused. You can buy the DDE now for October and it will still be good until the end of November 2009? I thought that you had to purchase the DDE closer to the time that you will start using it...in my case October 25, 2008. I remember that last year I was told that because I ordered it at a certain time during the month that I could extend the card to the end of the following month (next year). I had the plastic card and would rather have a plastic card again.

What I meant is that this year it is possible to just purchase DDE when you arrive at WDW...no need to order it ahead of time.

But since you want a plastic card, you will need to order it. I would call and ask the DDE folks for the latest word. Who knows, everyone may be getting Tyvek by now.

I don't know what the "rules" are -- but FWIW, we bought the DDE on June 13 this year (at Guest Relations at MK) and it is good until July 31, 2009. So, a good 6 weeks longer than 12 months.

Thanks for your suggestions BCV23 and Vicky C. The card is great! We used it for 4 trips since June 2007 (considering we're from New England).
