I am 95% certain that I will be buying into the DVC, now I am just researching the resale contracts.

When there are contracts for points under 100, say someone is selling 30 points or 50 points or even 75 points, are those considered add-on points? Do you have to first purchase 100 points like when buying direct from Disney?

Just keep and eye on the closing costs and price per point. You many get a better over all deal with a larger contract.

1. your first contract is always your "master contract." if it is resale, then you cannot use the direct options (their value is too low for me to call them benefits) like trading for cruises or disney hotels, and you also do not get member discounts on APs and such.

2. if you buy another contract that is titled the same and has the same UY month, that contract should be treated as an "add-on" - which means it is easier to pool points between the two contracts (at 11 months if they are for the same home resort or 7 months if different home resorts.)

3. if you buy another contract with a different UY month, you have 2 separate master contracts (not an "add-on") and will generally be treated as if you are 2 different members. might be useful in certain cases but it could also trip you up if you are not careful.

4. if you need to sell later, you can sell either contract and your remaining contract would be considered a master contract.

5. you can buy in for as few as 25 pts resale (but closing costs will raise the per point cost, which is typically higher for small contracts anyway.)

Small resale contracts, 25 to under 100 points, are typically ones in high demand with both new purchasers and existing DVC members, with the result that they are often hard to find and when they show up, they are priced at a premium per point in comparison to larger contracts. As a new purchaser from Disney, you typically have a 100 point minimum purchase, whereas in resale, even as one who does not already own DVC, you can go as low as 25 points. That 25 point contract in resale would have been an "add-on" at some point in time purchased from Disney by a DVC member because when an existing.member purchases additonal points from Disney it is typically referred to as an add-on.
