We will be arriving this Friday May 20 for the weekend and I saw where the weather forecast is for rain the whole weekend. Not sure if it will be scattered showers or all day rain Saturday and Sunday. If it is raining do they shut down all rides or just the outside rides. Will rides like Spiderman and Transformers still run when it's stormy outside? I hope it's not a total washout but the forecast doesn't look good now. Hope it changes. Thanks!!

Rides indoors dont shut down due to rain

Rides outdoors are shut down when there is lightening within a 5 mile range

Or is it a 3 mile range?

Anyway, it is not the rain but the lighting that causes the shutdown

We will be there this coming weekend as well, and have been watching the forecast.

What effect does the rain generally have on the crowds at US? Does it keep crowds down, or does everyone simply crowd into US since most rides are indoors?

One of the best days we've ever had at Disney was 3 years ago in early June when a tropical storm came across central Florida. It flooded on us at the Magic Kingdom all day, but we stayed with it and it felt like we had the park to ourselves. Pretty much every ride was a walk-on. We're going to be there rain or shine, but hoping for light crowds if it does indeed rain.

It has been my experience that the parks are not busy during rain. Especially during the week. Weekends could be a different story though. People typically won't "Waste" a ticket day when it's if they have flexibility in their schedule. A few weeks ago during a rain storm (on a wednesday) the park looked nearly empty. I personally love the theme parks in the rain.... I wear boots, a rain jacket, a hat, and have a waterproof bookbag. No problemo

Let me rephrase that: If it's scheduled to rain or storm all day people typically won't waste a ticket day if they have flexibility. Except me... because I won't melt.

Yeah, we don't mind the rain at all, as long as there is benefit from it (lower crowds). I figure if nothing else, it might help keep the locals at home.
