When or did schools go back in session in the south?

I live in Georgia and we started on Aug. 4.

In Mecklenburg County (the county that Charlotte is in) in NC, schools start back on Aug. 25th.

Also the 25th for Union County, NC- another suburban Charlotte county. I believe the whole state of NC is required by law to start on or after 8/25. The tourism industry lobbied to get the school start date pushed back.

I live in SC and my DD and DS both start school Monday, Aug. 28.

Lake County went back Aug 10th, and that was the last local county to resume classes.

I know that this is mostly about schools in the south, but since the OP mentioned the west as well, I'll chime in that in Oregon we don't go back til after Labor Day.

In TN, we started Aug. 2nd

Yep and a lot of counties will have a 1 week fall break either the 2nd or 3rd week of Oct.

South Dakota will start 8/22 and I believe many other states in the area are right around there.

I live in Katy TX and we started August 10th. Next year, due to a new state law, schools can't start until the "first Tuesday after the fourth Monday, which will be August 28th, 2007. I'm hoping Disney offers free dining again next year!!

My kids are in Hillsborough County (Tampa), and as someone said, we went back 3 August. My Mom is in Lee County (Ft. Myers), and those kids went back the 7th (I think). Pinellas County (St. Pete/Clearwater) went back the 10th.

Now I know why WDW is slow the last couple of weeks of August! A lot of kids go back to school way early, but I take it they have a "fall break", which ours don't. They only get 2 days at Thanksgiving.

My DS goes back the day after Labor Day, but other schools around Maine are known to have kids go back either this coming week or the last week of August. The ones that start back to school in Aug. are because of the anticipated storm days they will likely use. Our school rarely if ever uses a storm day...we are too well acclimated to our Siberia-like weather here

The munchkins in my neighborhood ( upstate SC ) started school around 8/9. MY DD's BF teaches at a private school in Columbia, SC and I believe they will start 8/22.

We just returned from WDW on Wednesday & the buzz was locals in FL started school on Moday 8/14.

Yep, exactly.

Keep in mind (for those planning August trips next year) that Florida just made a new state law that schools cannot start until at least August 20th starting next year. No more really early school starts any longer. So, if you're trying to plan a trip around the locals & their school sessions, the first half of August is no longer quite the option anymore.
