So....
Last year I found these boards, and I learned from the Masters. I joined my month's code watch. I learned about the Illuminations cruise and was the 1st one to call and get a boat - at 3:57 am my time, no less. I got every reservation I wanted and stayed at the resorts I wanted most.
It was amazing.
So, this year - we planned on doing different things...until our dearest friends said a week ago, "Hey, my sister and her husband said they won't come see us in California - we have to meet them at DisneyWorld in November - are you in?"
My heart sank. No, I didn't renew TGM. No, I hadn't checked on the boards in ages. I saw the rate increases, and on top of it all, they wanted to go during regular season.
But hey, you have to start somewhere. So I told them we could if we could bring it in under budget. We talked about a budget and how they would love to stay at a deluxe hotel. I just sat back and said, someone's going to have to give me a miracle.
Then I checked the boards and started seeing all of the posts about the PIN card for 40% off. I just about screamed. If I could be one of the lucky ones - we could really pull this off!
Saturday - no card. Then I read a post from someone where they called reservations and asked if a PIN was attached to their name. We had priced out our "dream" vacation at $4900 for 8 days, 7 nights at the Yacht club w/dining and wine and park hoppers. Our hopes were sunk.
So I called. "Do I by some weird chance, have a PIN code attached to my name?" "Yes...you do," he says..."but I don't know what it's for. Why don't we try your reservation?"
"Would you mind an upgrade to a water view room?" Well...no. Total cost? $3502.73. OK, I'm 2.03 over - but I think I'll be forgiven. We got the 40% off room rate! I was able to get our friends the same rate as well.
All I can say is...call...call...call...and don't give up hope! We received no postcard, but we did have a PIN. If I didn't ask, I wouldn't be going on my next dream trip to WDW.
Icing on the cake? Out with our friends at a Mexican restaurant, and from across the room the Mariachi's start playing "It's a Small World". Yeah. Like that happens every day!
We just looked at each other and laughed. When it's meant to be, it's meant to be.
Thanks, DISboarders....without you, I wouldn't have had a chance!
