When is VGC supposed to open?

I read that once its open, you won't be able to use DP at the Grand Californian any longer. We had hoped to go next Christmas, but aren't planning to buy VGC due to the high minimums. So I was wondering when would be the latest I could stay at GC on points?

It was announced in one of the Disneyphile magazines that the projected opening was Nov '09. A friend of mine was at DLR last week and was told that the construction was way ahead of schedule and may open as early as this summer. I don't know who told him that or if it is even a possibility.

The DLR hotels Points Chart has a footnote in the GCH column that states: '**Available for stays through December 31, 2009.'

So, I'm assuming that means the 2010 Points Chart will not have GCH on it and may state you'll need to pay the $95 booking fee for DLR and PPH.

Do you know when they usually post the next years points chart? I assume the Contemporary Resort will be removed from the WDW points chart too due to BLT.

Edit: I was just wondering if VGC was going to open early given it looks like the matching DP's they plan to give with VGC purchases expire Oct 09... Maybe a Sept or Oct opening along with BLT?

My guide said estimated opening date Nov/Dec 2009 with reservations open to founding members this summer.

My guide told me they would be open for Thanksgiving and perhaps a bit sooner.

The points charts indicate you can book through the end of the year at DGC hotel so If I were you I would try and book as soon as you can at the GCH if they tell you that you can't use them then try for another DL hotel but you won't know until you try

We booked a few weeks ago at GCH on reservation points for Sept. 13-18th. I think we just squeaked in under the wire.

Ahhhh...that may change things.

Currently, the only people allowed to purchase VGC during the next two months are the Founding Members, which means they purchased DVC while at the DL resort. They then became Founding Members, which gives them priority at purchasing the VGC points.

Presumably, after the Founding Members have purchased what they want, the points will go on sale to the other DVC members; then, the points will go on sale to the general public.

I do not know for sure, but I would assume that, for a new member, such as yourself, that the initial contract would have to be 160 points, not 100; however, I could be wrong! That is, from what I have seen, typical for new members.
