When is "quiet time"?

During what hours do you tell your children to be quiet in the halls/courtyards at a hotel at Disney? We've never had a real problem before, but I am so thankful that I don't have my son here with me now (I'm at a conference) because people have been so rude and loud until all hours of the night on this trip. Right now (10:20PM) there is a load (yelling, not just dribbling and shooting - which echoes loud enough) game of basketball going on at the jumbo hoops. (I'm at ASSports, obviously - the only place cheap enough for my government per diem! :headache:) Each night children have been running by screaming as late as midnight. I'm up working and have earplugs for when I sleep, so it doesn't bother me, but I would be STEAMED if my son was trying to sleep.

My son goes to sleep early, so I don't feel the need to "hush" him at 7:30 or so when we're going to the room, but I definitely make him be quiet at 7AM when we are headed back out for the day!

I have found that it is not the children you need to worry about. The adults are much louder than the children. We stayed at POP last summer and were poolside on the 1st floor..Around 3 one morning I was awakened by sounds of screaming and laughing and splashing, so I went outside to see what was going on and there was a group of about 6 adults out there by the pool drinking. I should have said something or called the front desk and they as adults should have known better, but I minded my own business and went back to bed. Now if they would have awakened my kids then "all H@LL would have broken loose in the Happiest Place on Earth".....to answer your question our kids are in bed by 8 pm at home and by 9 pm on vacation unless we are doing EMH then they are asleep in the stroller by 9 pm..:rotfl: They have been put to bed so early as babies that it is very rare for them to have their eyes open past 9pm.

We try to be quiet at all hours. . . you never know if someone is napping or sick in their room, etc. It really is just common courtesy to be respectful of others.

It rarely is reciprocated by other guests, but we teach our children to respect others even if you don't get it in return.

:confused3

I agree 100%!

Although I have noticed that the AS resorts in general are just louder, but I think that is because of the number of rooms, not that the people are any more or less obnoxious at one resort over another-cause I've had loud and rude ones at GF too. Common courtesy does lack.

I travel with a white noise machine. It's always worked well for my kids.

Agreed! Also, we try to make our kids be extra quiet after 9 pm but make it really all the time. I also agree that it is more the adults than the children

I would really curtail the noise from midnight till 7 AM but even Disney doesn't follow those rules because they were cutting grass and weed wacking very early outside our room last trip. Up to midnight there are bus loads of people coming back and hitting the food court and the pools are open till then.

I think somewhere around 10 to 7

I know that is asking a lot though because some people do stay up a lot later than I would (and I get up earlier). I know not everyone likes to come back to their room and crash after being at the parks, but I think having a full-on basketball game near hotel rooms at midnight is kind of pushing the envelope.

Last time we were at the Contemporary a guard came to our door around 11. My DH was alseep, I was in my nightgown and our 3 boys were coloring at the table. Someone had complained we were to noisy:eek:. We may have been a bit loud when we came back from the park after 10:30,and we were unpacking our bags (it was our first night) and getting ready for bed - but I quickly calmed the boys down. I really did not think we were being to noisy - just the regular getting back to the room noise - my boys do not yell or scream in hotel rooms. I had a horrible night - if we were too noisy for someon eour first night I was going to be worried about every sound the boys made. I went to the front desk the next day and let them know of my worries and they quickly calmed me down and informed my the person who had complained had checked out.

We do expect the boys to keep it down I think 11pm-7am is sleeping time, and anything after 9 is quiet tiime.

I think as people's sleep and awake patterns differ, there can be no real "quiet time". At home we stay up late, and sleep in. We home-school, so there is no need to get early for school, hubby and I both work late, so we have our own "normal hours". I get annoyed at phone calls or noise before 11:00 am. But noise after midnight doesn't bother me in the least.

When at the world we go to bed earlier, so we can get out earlier, because it allows us to get more done. But I am never upset if I hear noise early or late, as I know everyone has a different idea of what is early and what is late. At other places, where we aren't trying to get out early, I hate being woke early by noise, and for me 7:00 to 9:00 am is early, but it isn't my place to tell those that do get up early to follow my schedule. I think the problem lies in what is considered to be normal hours, no longer is?

I don't think people ever need to be obnoxiously loud, at any hour, but obviously from the noise I usually hear when in a hotel most people don't agree. ;)
