When is it warm enough to swim?

Let me start by saying that I've gotten the okay from my husband to start planning my dream trip, so you should probably get used to seeing me, because I'm sure I'll be posting every five minutes for the next 12 months!

When does it become warm enough to swim in the outdoor pools onsite? I'll have a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old with me and there's no way they'll let me walk past a beautiful pool without trying them out. I don't want to freeze my gazongas off.

For us were almost a guaranteed swim day March through November but even in the Dec-Feb time frame you can have days that are great for swimming. Here's a monthly average chart for Orlando:

And coming from the North East your tolerance is probably much different than someone from a Southern state who may be used to warmer swim weather... for us we're used to swimming when it's mid 70's. :rotfl2: Disney also heats their pools in the winter so getting in really isn't the issue... it's getting out when you freeze. ;)

We swam in March but when we went in January, it was too cold for us!

We swim in December, but we're from Wisconsin and the 50+ degree weather seems warm to us. The pools are all heated, but the walk up to the top of the slide and walk back to the room in a wet swimsuit can get to you. Disney will pull the lifeguards at around 55-degrees and we swam a couple of days last year after the lifeguards were called in due to cold.

You can easily swim April through early November. March is usually a safe bet, but I've been in central Florida in March during a cold snap and been unable to swim. Late November through February is variable. I've been there in December and February and it's been warm enough to swim, but I've also been there during Thanksgiving and experienced 40s with rain. Definitely not swimming weather.

It depends..We have swam in December and in Jan when the weather has been warm. The pools are always heated

My kids have swam in the AKL pool on Xmas eve & we've been to BB in January. You just never know what the temps will be. We also wore gloves on some mornings during those trips as well!

We were there the second week of Dec the last couple of years and it was warm enough to swim. We're cold natured southerners from east Texas, so don't go near the water unless it's warm.:rotfl: Robin said 50 degrees was warm to them, but for us that's coats, hats, and gloves weather.:rotfl: No way are we getting even close to the pools in those temperatures. However, last Dec we wore shorts and capris most days and swam in the afternoons with no problems.

DH and I are leaving tomorrow for our first December trip...taking bathing suits and hope to get in the pool a couple of days.:cool2: It's supposed to be in the 70s while we're there, so we should be okay.:thumbsup2 Sounds like it's hit or miss. Good luck and have fun planning your dream vacation!!:dance3:

Seems like what's too cold for kids to swim and what's too cold for parents to swim are completely different temperatures! I've been bundled up, watching my kids play in the water, completely oblivious to the cold. Granted, it's no fun telling them it's time to go so much faster than when it's warm out, but at least they got to swim a little!

A friend from England was saying she just gets her kids those light wetsuit-type swim wear so they can go swimming any time!
