When is it best to do this?

We have a reservation in DHS on a friday during our trip. There are 3 of us in our party, I was just informed the person who is the lead on the reservation isnt going.

So 2 questions.
1. Can i change the lead name on the reservation, or best to keep it under her name? There will be a female checking in with me so she could lie i guess

2. Is it easy to go from a party of 3 to a party of 2, or should we get there, and again lie, and say she wasnt feeling well or something.

You don't have to lie about either thing. Disney won't question either circumstance.

When you check in just give the name of the person that the res is currently under and let the host/hostess know that there are only 2 of you dining.

You cannot change the lead person's name on the res. The only way to do that is to cancel the current res and make a new one because Disney does not allow transferring of reservations from one person to another. While you are not doing that, Disney has no way of knowing.

You can call to modify the res to a party of 2, but be sure the CM on the phone doesn't cancel the reservation. As long as at least one person shows up at the restaurant for the reservation, you will not be penalized for the missing person. We're a party of 3, but sometimes have to make reservations for 4 because the res system has a quirk that makes it easier to book tables for an even numbered party than an odd number. When we arrive at a restaurant we have never been asked about the missing person.
