When is it appropriate to play loud music in an apartment complex?

A question disguised as a rant! :teeth:

I hate my downstairs neighbors. At 8 am, there was loud, bass thumping music going. It's still going at 10 am - I moved from the bedroom (where it was vibrating my bed) to the living room and can STILL hear it, over my TV. And they've done it at 11 pm, too.

Personally, I don't think it's ever appropriate. It gives me an urge to walk heavily.

Of course, these are the same kids that play tag in the open stairwell at 2 am (beautiful echoing noises.) And play "how many times can we honk the horn in the van in one minute".

Can anyone tell how ready to move I am??

It is never appropriate. It is one of the penalties for apartment living. You have to consider your neighbors. But there will always be idiots who show no concern for others at all.

We keep having the buy / not buy debate over and over...and one of the big reasons on the pro side is neighbors.

Have you tried complaining to management? When I moved in here, they let us know about the 'no noise' policy... No Noise I say? I have a 14 yr old son... But the rule is , if neighbors can hear you, its too loud. Walls here must be pretty think, I rarely hear the neighbors... but if complaints are lodged against you, they give you a few warnings, written and verbal.. If it continues to be an ongoing problem, they will tell you to find another place to live. GL

FIK - I wish we could buy! But living in five places in three years doesn't lend itself to buying. I just hope we get on base when we move...

jrydberg & flaps - glad someone agrees with me! :)

Straycat - we only lived here three months, so it seems pointless to complain. And it's only gotten worse in the past couple of days since school let out. We move in three weeks, thank goodness!!

Do you live in the same complex as me?!!
I hear this every night too!

The general rule is ....if your neighbor can hear your music, you are breaking the rule! I came home one day and I swear the windows were vibrating in my apt. It was coming from the bass upstairs. I have never heard bass that loud before. I had to bang and bang on the guys door to get him to hear me. He finally turned it down, but looked at me like he could not understand why I had my request.

I'm buying stock in Miracle Ear:listen: I'm gonna be a rich old lady :teeth:

You do like my mother did. Buy one of those huge (I think they care called) subwoofers....the thing that has alot of bass. Turn the device so the speaker part is facing the floor. (she has problem with upstairs people, so she did opposite on the ceiling). Now get a movie like Lord of the Rings and play it full blast. Only other thing to keep in mind is make sure it is about 4am....when they are good and asleep. They will get the hint.

We had this problem in one of our apartments. I just walked over, knocked on their door and told them to please turn it down as my child was trying to sleep. I can't count the number of times I did this in the 4 months or so we lived there.

I do have to admit that they were probably paid back because my DS (nearly 3 at that time) was really fighting going to sleep and would typically scream bloody murder at 1 in the morning cause he didn't want to sleep and I made him stay in his bed.

It is never OK. That is why so many people like me left apartment life, despite the obvious advantages like free heat and water, maintenance and carefree living. I mean, what good is all that if you can't turn up the tunes?!?! It is less irritating though if you share the same taste in music. :p

Keep the Faith!

only if they've all accepted the invitation...LOL

The brats have invented two new games today!

1) Make a high pitched squeal until all the dogs in the complex are barking
2) Play with the lids of the huge garbage bins (is it wrong to hope they fall in?)

Why are there parents who allow this to happen?!
