When is Disney going to add our membership and AP to the MBs

So aggravated! Went to Blizzard Beach. Had to buy a few things. Couldn't use any discounts because I had already locked my phone and ID in the locker. Since they use the MBs for entry into the park, they KNOW it has my AP and surely in 2025, they can add our membership to the band. I get the ID but they also could have the picture come up. NOT taking my phone in any water. Moonlight Magic tonight - not buying anything other than food.

So ask if they will hold the stuff you want to buy and walk back to the locker to get your wallet/phone/ID. Not sure why this would not be the option you would take to get your discount. Not trying to be rude, but this is on you. Someone could very easily swap bands to get discounts on their purchases. I have had friends ask me to buy them stuff in the parks at DL to get my AP discount and I can only do that if I pay. Seems fair to me and I typically say no when people ask me to do so.

I think the information can be read from a MB with the right type of scanner. We were recently in Epcot and wanted to go to the DVC lounge. I couldn't easily grab my phone at the check-in booth so the DVC guy said he could just scan my MB to check on my credentials. It worked and he let us in.

Perhaps the real issue is not all POS locations have the necessary scanner?

It should be able to be read on a MB. The MB doesn’t store information. It links back to your MDE account. That is why you can use a different MB every day if you want to. So if it links back to your MDE account, it knows what AP you have (and when it expires), whether you are an onsite guest, DVC member, etc. All that should be required is a MB and an ID to prove the two match and that you are in fact you. If they went with biometrics for identification, like when using a AP at the parks, you wouldn’t even need the ID. The idea that they can’t do it is a stain on Disney’s already mostly inept IT. Disney has access to all the info but won’t put the hardware/software in place to get it done.

I believe that this is it and that just tapping doesn’t give fhat info.

However, what would be nice is if you charge yo your MB, thst the discount could be applied through your folio which should have fhst info.

I don't think the POS systems are set up to pull that kind of information from your magicband, they're purely for charging to your room. It's a good idea to enhance the system but they'd still need an ID to prove you aren't just wearing someone else's magicband. So that doesn't really solve your problem does it.

This thread reminded me of something I overheard when at Vero Beach in April. Someone in the gift shop was going on and on to the CM about having to show DVC-Y to get the discount. Stuff like I've never had to do this. Just got the discount at the restaurant etc. I don't even know if they were eligible and didn't have the wallet set up or just weren't eligible. Or possibly didn't even know there was a difference.

Anyway, after she left, the CM was telling the next person that she can't wait until they get the "new scanners" and pointed to the credit card reader. She said they were supposed to get them soon and that would be used to determine if you were eligible for DVC discounts (I would assume it would also extend to AP). While people would still complain/argue about not getting the discount, at least it should make the CMs lives a little easier.

This! Asking for a photoID match on discounts is normal and we have to expect it.

What you are asking for is possible, but a major investment. They are not linked to anything but the financial portfolio attached to your room reservation. It could be programmed for validating discounts... but there is no picture of you in the Disney system. They use a biometric finger match for park admission. The technology is no different than a store loyalty card I have on my Apple Watch that uses NFC when I scan it at a payment terminal. It would be easy to implement. They could also make the policy inside a park no ID required since you have to use biometrics to enter. Outside the park they could ask for ID and I would find that totally reasonable if the system automatically showed my discount eligibility.

……. Could totally see them doing a MagicBand 3.0 that has this capability. Good way to drive revenue with upgrades. Lol

This is not something you implement in Magic Bands. It is in the POS systems, and is a big change that must be designed, written, tested thoroughly and released to production. The POS system would need to reach into your profile to retrieve discount entitlements, display it, confirm choice of discount, then continue as before. Disney does not capture your picture for ID use (and would not want to, that is problematic) so an ID check is still needed even in the parks - otherwise people will just hand their magic band to a friend for discount. People with multiple discounts will need to be asked which one to use and the system programmed to wait for selection of the discount. (Remember different discounts may be funded differently so choice matters.)

I have had a CM say "I cannot see someone paying another person for something being bought using that person's discount" as it is for personal use only.

Finally, considering Disney's big push to increase spending. Why give a discount automatically? Make people ask. Disney loses more money giving the discount automatically. And implement this system why? No money in it. Does not really drive anyone to spend more, so the cost of changing the system has no ROI.

Since they just look at the DVC-Y on the phone and don't actually scan anything, I wonder if you could print a photo of the card page on your phone? On cruises, I bring along a laminated copy of my DL and passport for boarding the ship at ports of call, because they always ask for those, yet I don't want to be hauling my passport and ID all over various islands and countries if I don't need it for anything except getting on the ship. Those laminated copies work just fine along with my cruise ID/keycard.

Would Disney honor a copy of that page, laminated like a card, at a place like a waterpark where someone may logically not want to have their phone on them?

*different subject, but I keep a copy of my driver's license on my iphone, and use that at the DVC lounges when they ask to see my ID along with the DVC-Y. Since I'm already showing them the DVC-Y on the phone, it seemed easiest to also have a clean copy of my ID there so I don't have to bring my wallet or ID to the parks. I have had an occasional cast member say they didn't think they were supposed to allow it, but they do anyway - and most (90%) don't even bring it up. Some states have actual verified digital license cards, but Florida is in-between systems now and doesn't have one...so this has worked in the meantime.

Yes, I wore my Apple Watch at Blizzard Beach too and it was easy to use my AP discount via my watch, and also I could use the egift cards I have as payment, via the same watch! Very convenient.

You can print a paper DVC membership card from your DVC membership page, but it's only valid for a month. If you want to laminate a new card each month, or each time you visit, more power to you.

If you want to show them a photograph of your ID from your phone, why not just show them the digital DVC membership card as well?
