When in rain ponchos, do you have to take them off on rides?

We always remove ours because it is so uncomfortable in the line anyway. Often the seats will be wet, but whatever--that's the price you pay for the low crowds while it's raining!!

What about people who wear waterproof rain jackets like North Face or Columbia ones? Do people generally take those off as well? Just curious as we're not sure if we'll go the poncho route or jacket route next trip. Seems like a poncho would be easier to slip on and off if the expectation is that jackets should come off as well.

Windbreaker type jackets are fine. It's the ponchos they ask you to remove.

There is a difference on water rides because the point is to get wet, so you anticipate a wet seat. (Though I will admit to rolling my eyes and laughing at people who put ponchos on for them though - again, the whole point of water rides is to get wet.)

Ah Beth, I do hate disagreeing, but here I must. :) I like a water ride while wearing a poncho because you get all the *feeling* (the cold, the shock, the surprise, the squealing) of being drenched, but then you take the plastic off and you can go about your day normally with no chafing or unfortunate choice of underpants/shorts combo showing through. :)

I find it ironic that your username is another word for eye-poker-outer!! LOL. Please change your tag line to that!!
(Now where the heck is the ROFL smilie?!?)

Now THAT is funny. :) I always forget about that; I chose it for the festival up in Seattle over Labor Day, so I think of Seattle not umbrellas. Of course the festival is named for umbrellas. :)

I also forgot about my avatar when answering a question of "what are 'Friends of Bill W' meetings on cruises?" The answer is "AA meetings", and here I have my Duff beer Tervis sitting there in the picture. Whoopsie.

You would think so, but it isn't. To take off a wet poncho, without getting water everywhere and all over everyone, is actually quite a delicate procedure. And then you want to shake it off a bit, but if you don't do that carefully you're getting water everywhere. It's actually a lot more difficult than you would expect.

I take a rain coat similar to the ones the CMs wear, it snaps all the way down and almost reaches the ground. Easy on and off, I just slip it off, shake it a bit away from everyone, fold it up inside out and then when I get off the ride turn it back right side and slip it back on. I stay a whole lot dryer then with a poncho. The hood has a draw string as well. I will carry an umbrella is it's just a light drizzle, I'm short so the odds of my umbrella poking anyone is pretty high but I'm also very careful with it, since the crowds tend to thin out in the rain anyway there isn't much chance of me hitting any one. It's also easier if I'm wearing a dress or shorts with small pockets and don't want to carry a bag. I can just hook the handle around my belt loops or around my wrist. Umbrellas aren't very much good in the gully washers, since the wind tends to blow and the water just gets blown under the things.

We were at Disney for a few rainy days in January, and I was asked EVERY time to take off my poncho before getting on an attraction.

I never remember being asked before on any of our rainy trips, but I was in January.

My son was wearing a wet rain jacket and was never asked to take that off before getting on an attraction - only people wearing ponchos.
We were also asked to remove our ponchos before entering any indoor ride last August.
That's when we became umbrella carrier's because of the reason below

We encountered an unusually rainy period last August. It rained for long periods on several days, not just afternoon come and go showers.
So we do carry those eye poking umbrellas. Though without poking folks in the eye. Granted, I like my personal space. I don't walk or stand close to people when going from point A to point B. Even at Disney I find it easy to maintain space around me, when I'm not in line of course. And we don't use Umbrellas in line anyway.

I carry my ponchos in a ziploc bag so when we need them (and remove them) I have a place to stash them. And I always bring an umbrella if it is raining. The few times I've been at WDW in torrential, all day downpours, I have been very grateful for my umbrella. I use a small compact one.

I meant to mention I carry a plastic Disney shopping bag to store our umbrellas when they aren't needed
