When in May is a good time to go?

Hello Everyone :)

I was scheduled to go to Disney in January but due to my husband's emergency surgery was unable to go. We have always gone in January - we love the weather and the low crowds. We once went in September and found the crowds and the heat unbearable.
We were considering going in May, because by then my husband will have had ample recovery time, etc.,. But is May really a good idea? We don't want to wait too long, the kids, (5 and 8 - though understanding and being so wonderful about the whole thing) are already so disappointed about a planned trip for January that had to be cancelled. So we really would prefer not too push it all the way to November or December, though I hear those are great times also.
I know that in May it certainly will not be as cool, but can anyone tell me if it is as hot as September? Also, is there a certain time in May that there is somewhat low crowds? There are a lot of sites that give you good and bad times to go, but I wanted to hear from those of you who might have gone in May. This is where the true experts are :sunny:

Thank you so very much and all the best to all of you in 2004!!!! ::MinnieMo

Peg....

Your post said "bump". Not sure what you mean by that (???) Is this a tag?? I am sort of new to the boards so you will have to bear with me.

Thanks :)

Do not have the answer to your original question.

"bump' is bumping your post to the current page so it does not get lost and most likely get read and answered.

We went in early May 2001 and had a wonderful time. Low crowds, great weather. Check out our pictures in my link below, you can see in the background how low the crowds were! I hope you have a great trip and I'm hope your DH is doing well.

I have been there several times, late May, and it is starting to get pretty warm. My very favorite time is right after Thanksgiving.

In May, you have the Flower and Garden Show at Epcot, and it is spectacular. I used to have some picture threads from back then but those have been archived and lost. I would go as early in May as you could, cooler and probably less crowded.

And welcome to the DIS, Sweet_Thing!!!!!! :wave2:

We have been the first week of May several times. Nice weather, smallish crowds. Would recommend that timeframe.

I just want to extend a warm thanks to all of you for taking the time to answer and help me out. You are the greatest :)

I have been twice in May. Once the first week beautiful weather and low crowds, longest wait maybe about 15 minutes. Went again in the last week of May. Hot very very hot, so bad that we spent much less time at the parks, and much more time by the pool. The crowds were heavier, not summer or holiday crowded, but worse then the beginning of the month. Hi Sweet_Thing,
I would also reccomend the first week in May. We have been to Florida twice during this time of the year. One trip was to Universal and the other to WDW. On both trips, the weather was perfect (about mid 80s) and we only had rain one night out of both trips. Crowds weren't bad and we were able to never wait in a line longer than 10 - 15 minutes by using fastpass. The Flower and Garden Festival was really beautiful too.

 Hope you have a nice trip!

Sweetthing...this would get more response on the Theme Park boards probably.

We have gone in May and love it. We went the first week and it was low crowds and hot. Not as humid as Sept though. We go in Sept every year and the crowds are always sooo low. I am surprised that you said it was busy. But yes Sept is hot/humid compared to January. May has very low rain which is really nice.

Just continue to research here on the other boards (themepark, resorts, etc) and you will become a pro. Avoid all holidays, even Mothers Day. :wave2:

We were there once in May. The first week. Crowds weren't bad, waits weren't very long and the weather was great. Warm enough to go swimming but not too hot for touring the parks. We have also been in July, August and September and will not be visiting during those months again if we can help it. We also found the heat unbearable. IMO, early May is a great time to go.

I've been there numerous times in May including May of 2003 and it's wonderful! The weather can be very warm but after a long, cold New England winter that is usually a relief. The crowds go from light to moderate with only Spectromagic bringing out the incredible crowds.

As far as I can see, the Flower Power concerts haven't been posted yet. These are part of the Flower and Garden show that is held April thru June. I planned my entire vacation last year around seeing Paul Revere and the Raiders and hope to do the same thing this year. They are fabulous but most of the groups that perform are very entertaining. Admission to the concerts that are held at EPCOT are included with your ticket price.

September use to be my favorite time to go but since seeing the Flower Power concerts, May is now #1 with me.

Going in May can be a blast!
