When, if ever, did you move to two rooms?

For families of 4, did you start booking two rooms at some point or do you/did you always stay in one? My kids are 14 and 11 and quite tall, so daybeds aren't an option for them anymore, and I'm thinking this will be our last trip with one room (and maybe our last trip staying at a Deluxe resort since two rooms at any Deluxe is $$$). Just wondering what others have done.

We last did 1 room when DS's were 17 and 13 at AKL- but since they're both boys they can share a bed. For the sake of saving $ if we had 1 boy and 1 girl, I'd honestly sleep with the daughter and have DH sleep with the son rather than have each kid have their own bed. This trip there's 6 of us so we're doing two rooms. Even now at 21 and 17 the boys would share a bed because they'd rather spend the extra $ on something else.

Yes, I would be fine sleeping with DD, and DH with DS, it's more a matter of four adult-sized bodies sharing one room. I know many people do this, all the time, and so I am perhaps being too pampered here. Really, how much time do we spend in our room? Not much. I will see how this trip goes and probably try two rooms at a Moderate next time and compare.

My family of 4 always stays in one room, and we're all adults (me, my sister, and our parents). We've done this at all levels - value, mod, and deluxe. It's a little easier at mod and deluxe level since the rooms can be a tad bigger, but it's doable. It helps that the ratio is 3 women to 1 man, so we can let him get ready first, then kick him out of the room for coffee in the morning while we get ready.

We switched to DVC once the first child reached 18 and there was an "extra adult" fee for her. However, she is petite and always fit on the daybed. The boys would take turns sleeping on an air mattress rather than share a bed. Ironically, since graduating from college, neither of the boys vacations with us anymore.

My family is generally a one room family as well. First when me and my brother were the adult siblings and now again for his family as my nieces are both adults.

The only time we split into two rooms was when I knew I’d have to work from the room and didn’t want to disturb them at 4:00 am when I got up to log into the office.

I can totally understand a family wanting more space though.

My kids are 17 and 12, and we still stay in one room. We really don't mind it at all, although we have started staying deluxe to get a little more room.

When I'd travel with my parents as a kid we usually got one room and I slept with my mom and my brother with my dad. We always fought so sharing a bed was never going to happen. We did stay in villas offsite a few times as we got older to give us more space. They didn't want to do two rooms because there is potential for them to be no where near each other.

We are a family of five, two boys and one girl. We always stayed in one room. Even when the kids were well into their teens and well into their twenties. The boys are over 6 foot. Everyone was respectful of the bathroom time getting ready in the morning. I will tell you that our most fond family memories was the time we spent in that room together with out other people around and schedules. We laughed, joked around, played games. They grow up fast, cherish the moments it really can work out fine.

We started spliting into two rooms when I was about 15 or 16. I think the biggest thing is a question of budget. If you have the money I think it’s great to get th extra space....and especially extra bathroom. Some families are fine in one room, but it just worked better for us to split up. My aunt’s family had to start splitting up by the time the second boy was a teenage because they are both giants and sharing a bed would not have worked!

When we travel with our son (he's now 16 but we have done this since he was about 8) we typically stay in a Family Suite at All Star Movies. We like having the second bathroom and he has always been fine with sleeping on the sofa bed. It's more about the bathroom for us than beds.

The only problem with booking two rooms is that each room must have an adult (18 or older) registered in the room. There is no guarantee that you will get connecting rooms. The only guaranteed way to get more space is to book something that has more than a single room, like a suite, a family suite or a DVC one bedroom or larger. All of these combinations do not charge you for more than two adults (18 or older) in the space.

Mine are still young but both girls and to date we still do one room; they are 9 and 11. I can't see paying extra for a room for space needs even when my girls are grown up sized. I can't justify paying extra for a hotel room anywhere and even more so at WDW. We are not in our room that often anyway so I think it's a moot point. I get up earlier than the rest of my family to get ready or exercise so the bathrooms not an issue and my girls will usually shower the night before or we all trade off so two of us shower at night and two in the AM.

We are a family of 5. Two girls, 14 and 11 and a boy, 3. I cannot imagine a day when we would pay for a separate room for just our family. We do get a deluxe room, to have more space, and have also done an AOA family suite. We don't mind being on top of one another though.

We are a family of 4. Myself, my husband, daughter (19) and son (15). On our last family trip, in 2016, we had 2 rooms at Coronado Springs. For us, it was the best vacation decision we ever made. My daughter is about an inch taller than me and my son is 6 feet tall. For us that's too many adult size people in one small room. My daughter hates sharing a room with her dad. He snores and it keeps her awake. With 2 rooms we had 2 bathrooms which was nice when we were getting ready. During the day we left the connecting door open and at night we closed it. When we go next year we will again have 2 rooms. I have priced out all the different options and the 2 rooms seem to be the least expensive. Other than renting DVC points and that's a whole other thing.

On our upcoming trip, DD (20) and her BFF will have their own room and my husband and I will have our own room for the first time. Even though we are celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary, I want two queens so that I can have the bed to myself for once. The girls are paying for their room and food. I’m paying for their tickets. It’s so expensive, but hopefully it will be worth every penny.

My family was squeezing 5 people into a value/mod room until I was in my late teens, at least (as the youngest I got the air mattress on the floor while my sisters shared a bed). We didn't get two rooms until my sister brought her boyfriend along. This was all 10+ years ago.
Last year we had 4 adults in one value room for one night and it was not pleasant. I don't know how we ever managed it with 5.

We are a family of 4. DD is 21 and DS is 15. We always stay in one room. If it's a reasonably priced option, we try to get a room that has a pullout couch plus two beds, but that's not an option some places (like Disney). In that case (like when we went on a one night excursion last week), DD and I sleep in one bed and DH and DS sleep in the other bed. Sometimes DS will choose to sleep on the floor and he brings his sleeping bag. If the kids are unhappy with this arrangement, they've never said anything. They'd rather be somewhere and all four of us in one room than not going because I am not paying for two rooms.
