...because frankly I don't know that it's worth 2 whole cents.
Anyway, hub and I were discussing this topic last night, and while we agree that those who have chosen to raise children do get a few financial perks (and weighed against the cost of raising a child, I stress the word "few") from the structure of our taxation system, there is a bigger picture here.
These children that are being raised will do the voting, the community maintenance, the marrying, the begatting, and (one to really remember) the paying of the taxes that will support the generation who came before and are at an age that no longer earns a steady income. It's a whole circle of life thing, to quote....well, you know. And their support of that older generation will not pick and choose between those elderly who had children and those who did not. It all comes together, and works out in the end.
There is no right or wrong in the choosing to have children, or to remain childless. But it is an absolute that the children of today are the citizens of tomorrow, and as a society, I think it makes perfect sense to make some of the financial stress of that responsibility a little lighter.
