Put the deposit on our 7 night Western Nov 6, 2004 Cruise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have previously posted that we were considering a 3-4 day for our 15th anniversary in the fall of 2004 with just the hubby and myself and then a 7 night in 2005 with the kids. We have decided to do the 7 night with the kids to celebrate our anniversary because we can't wait until 2005 and we know there will be plenty of quality alone time. Just thought I'd share the good news. Now where is that check?????????????

We are waiting for our $400. to come in , so that we can use it as a deposit for the 4 night next year . Would have gotten more but unfortunetly my oldest daughter turned 18 last year !Hey , but every bit helps . But the return next spring will help bring the balance down .

I think this may be one of the few times I don't feel like I am being penalized for having three kids!!!! $400 X 3= $1200!!! Although this $1200 bucks is going toward 2 category 10's for which we are paying 4 adult fares and 1 child fare.

Oh well, I guess that's the price you pay for 3 beautiful children. I wouldn't have it any other way!!

Unfortunately, my baby is 28, so I don't think I'll get $400! However, he's using the $400 he'll get for his daughter to pay some of his balance for our December cruise, and my SIL is using her money ($800!) the same way. Hmmm...maybe I should have had more kids?

I don't have a clue what check you are all referring to? Isn't the new tax credit for this coming year when we file? Is there another one I am not aware of?

If what you are all saying is true, President Bush owes me $800!

Found this on the IRS site.......... bummer...i'm in the last group. better then not getting one at all i guess. should be to me by the time the visa gets sent out with all the cruise charges...perfect timing really!!

Mailing Schedule for Advance Child Tax Credit Payments
For the first three weeks, the checks will be sent according to the last two digits of the taxpayer's social security number:
00-33 -- mailed July 25
34-66 -- mailed August 1
67-99 -- mailed August 8
Eligible taxpayers whose returns were not processed in time for these initial mailing dates will have their checks sent out after the IRS processes their returns

From www.irs.gov :

The Treasury is mailing checks to most people who claimed the Child Tax Credit last year, as an advance payment of the credit’s increase. If you claimed this credit on your 2002 tax return, you may be eligible for up to $400 for each qualifying child. That’s the difference between the old maximum credit of $600 and the new amount of $1,000.

The schedule for mailing these checks is in the post above. Enjoy some found money!

My $1200 is going right into the savings I've been gathering for our cruise pmt. Have a jar on the kitchen counter and the kids have been contributing loose change and even occasionally dollar bills! This in turn gets put into a savings acount I opened and named the Magic account. This will make a big difference and I may even collect most of it before the cruise. Just have to convince the kids that their Christmas presents are excursions we'll be taking on the cruise.

Thanks for the info, I thought we were getting a check for $400 total-not $400/child. I have twins so that's $800 in extra $$ for our upcoming trips! DH and I are going to get away this fall and we're going to take the kids on vacation for their 6th birthdays in March. We're going to ask my MIL if she will go with us this time-my FIL passed away suddenly March 16, 2003 and we had a 12 night trip to WDW/US planned for April 28th. We asked MIL to go, but it was only 6 weeks after FIL death. My kids want to go on another DCL, but not sure if MIL would want to go on a cruise. We asked them to go with us 2 years ago and her response was "You're not getting me on any cruise ship!" I hope she will reconsider, if not we'll go to WDW and US.

We were going to use ours for a downpayment on our cruise in May but we went to Las Vegas last weekend (only 6 hours from our house which is usually dangerous) and I played quarter slots and won almost $2500.00 so that helps pays for the cruise so I think we will use $1200 Uncle Sam owes us to either put down on hubby's car downpayment (if he ever receives it) OR buy me some plastic surgery in the areas that having those kids messed up!

Also cnn last night (in the middle of the night when I couldnt sleep) had an "expert" on and they were talking about this subject. 2 things struck me and that is
1. originally this tax year 2003 the child tax credit was supposed to go up to 1000.00 per child you could claim. If you do get this money back you are NOT elligible to claim the 1000.00 on the taxes you only get the 600.00 like you got last year so if you are a big tax figurer make sure you remember that you are not going to get "extra" money...this is money technically owed to you you are just getting it a little early.

2. This expert warned that most of the states will take about 1/3 of your money as tax on your "taxes" so be prepared for that as well. You may get all the $$$$ right now but come tax time the state you live in may tax you on receiving that amount.

Just wish folks would stop thinking they are getting money from 'Uncle Sam' ..... they are not - they are getting it from ME and others who do not qualify for the special breaks!!

Maybe I can somehow deduct my 7 Day cruise or DVC from my taxes.....

It's nice to finally get something in return for all of the years I have paid for those deadbeats who decided the rest of society can take care of them and their problems as well as our own! I will take the money from the government with open arms considering how much money we give every year just in Fica alone!

I am so sad, I was expecting the extra $400 myself, but today I went to the IRS website and found out that I wouldn't be getting it because my son will be 17yrs old in November. We also found out that no one in my office will be getting it for one reason or another. Too much money, divorcee's, and age etc.
