When/how medical room request assigned

I requested a ground floor or building with elevator at POR for medical reasons. I was told by CM that would be guaranteed. I also made a building request, not guaranteed. Do they assign the room before we get there? If so when? If we arrive and we do not like the location of the room , I realized I can request a diiferent room. In that case, will the CM be able to see in the system all the rooms that will become available that day? Or do they just see the rooms that have already been cleaned? Thanks for your help. Trying to keep everyone in family happy is never easy.
 
I don't know for sure how they assign I believe it done on the arrival morning. I do know that requests have a way of changing. I always call a couple weeks before then the week before then the day before just to make sure my requests are still on the reservation. Several times it has been changed mysteriously I found out the hard way when our ground floor request wasn't on out reservation when we arrived. We did get it fixed but it took a couple of hours

I'm totally unsure how it is done now since they started having to allow handicapped rooms to be booked online (by law). Prior to that, when a HC room was booked, an actual room was assigned at the time of booking and that actual room was removed from inventory. So it was important at the time of booking to make your requests known because they were assigning the room # then. Special reservations (or whatever the dept is called) doesn't generally advertise this but I once got a CM who told me my actual room #. When I went to check in the mgr said 'Oh I see your room is ready early!' and I said, 'Oh I'm in room 51XX right?' and he looked at me with a look of utter shock and wanted to know how I knew. I smiled and told him, I had friends who knew things. Now when the CM told me this info she reminded me that it could change if there were problems with the bldg or room so don't get my heart set 100% that that was MY room but more than likely it would be.
Now with the online booking system....I have NO IDEA when HC rooms are assigned.

but it's not going to happen that way.

You can make your requests and make sure you specify medical reasons for the request. You can check and recheck that it's all right, too.

Worse scenario would be you would have to check in at a later time if you were dissatisfied with your room or it's location.

At the time of check-in they will look at all inventory I believe. The catch is some rooms may not be vacated yet or cleaned. This is were the waiting game begins. Also, as previously stated with hadicap bookings being possible on the internet, now there may be assigned rooms with each reservation at the time of booking which would mean it could get harder to get a different room.

You may want to opt for a preferred room location and pay the extra per night charge.

Unfortunately, this is not a black and white situation; there's gray here and no concrete answers. It could even go differently depending on the check-in CM. Ask for a supervisor if you are having problems at check-in.
