just found out my niece has been sentenced to 18 months in federal pen for felony embezzlement. She had a small mortgage company finding loans(federally guaranteed) for folks with little/no/poor credit. Supposedly she was submitting forms for people that didnt exist.
Nobody in the family believes that she is guilty even tho she built a very nice house and drove a VERY nice car. She was such a good kid, teenager, and adult until now. I believe she got greedy and couldnt stop. I still love her, of course, but cant believe the rest of the family turns a blind eye to the possibility that she is guilty.

Anybody else have a similar experience?

Wow, what a shame and a federal prison no less. What a way to ruin your life. :sad2: Sorry to hear that.

the icing on the cake for her. Throughout the trials she and her husband were having trouble(from all the stress Im sure). He started having an affair, niece moved out. He moved in his girlfriend. He will get custody of their son when she goes to jail and nieces lawyer says she will never be able to get custody back because of her conviction.

That's awful. No amount of money or material things are worth losing your children and a part of your life. Unfortunately, I'm afraid there are alot more mortgage companies doing the same thing your niece did.

Wow, I'm sorry.

I do believe that good people can just get caught up in things. Unfortunately, so many people succomb to the materialistic society these days that they want things SO badly, they will do illegal things to get them. I'm only assuming that this was what it was all about--wanting the big house, the big car and everything people these days think they deserve. It's a shame this will cost her the custody of her son.

Sorry to hear about your niece. Sometimes people go about things the wrong way and they they get hooked and want more and more.

I've been that person with the blind eye. A very, very close friend - like a sister - went to work for the husband (total sleezebag) of another friend.

When I was originally told that she had embezzled money from the company there was NO WAY that I would believe it. The company owner was a total crook, and I honestly thought he was trying to put the blame on her for his misdeeds (of which there were many).

I defended her totally. I truly believed that she would NEVER do something like that. I would have trusted her with my life. I was as certain that she would never steal as I could be.

And I was so wrong. It's really hard to think you know someone so well but you really don't.

So sorry to hear about your niece....
It's so sad how materialistic society is that one would
put their whole life in jeopardy for some frills...

It happens everyday unfortunately...Losing her son
is a harsh price to pay..

That's a real shame. :sad2: It takes years to build a solid reputation and credibility. It only takes seconds, maybe minutes, to make one stupid decision and lose everything that took many years to build. :sad2: :sad2:
