When flying was fun

I can remember being the only person on a flight from Pittsburgh to Toledo. The FA said, honey I am not going to bother you. It was like having my own private plane.

That's an odd comment. Did she still serve drinks?

I was the only person on a flight from PHL-CAE one night. I got to the gate and didn't see any other passengers so I thought they had all boarded and I was running late. Upon stepping foot in the plane the FA greeted me "Mr. uva185, welcome aboard your private flight to Columbia". I asked if we could divert to Bermuda instead but that was a no go. After takeoff she offered free cocktails for the entire flight and we ended up chatting the whole flight. Quite a fun experience!! Only would have been better if they agreed to that Bermuda diversion! ;)

HMMMM!!!!!!

Well, I know that a certain German CLOT was planning to take a trip to the factory last week, because she was sent some day trip ideas of fun places to visit! :lmao: This was also on the list http://www.schokoladenmuseum.de/ because one can also make ones own Lindor there.
Yes I have been meaning to thank you for that suggestion. We had a lovely time and DS considers making his own chocolate bars to the highlight of his Weihnachsten Ferien. I also discovered that Ritter makes peppermint--already wishing I had bought more while I was there:love:

I have never been all alone o na flight, but I ahev been one of 6. We had a out of the way stopover because it was cheap and were flying Indianapolis to JFK to LAX. There was a huge storm on the East coast and JFK was shut down. They came on the speaker (to a full gate of people--poor things) and announced that JFK was shut down but the plane had to get on to LAX so could the 6 passengers contuniing on to LAX please board for their new DIRECT flight?! My family of four and a couple were very happy to end up in LA about 6 hours ahead of schedule--it is the only time I have heard of snow expiditing a flight for someone:lmao: We rented a car and went to Disneyland and called sister in law when we knew she should be available and told her not to try to leave work early to pick us up becuase we had already been there several hours:thumbsup2

Peppermint is one of their BEST flavours! It is on my list. Just one of the flavours that we keep hidden a secret from the export market. ;)

I haven't seen it in the normal stores here in Heidelberg either:headache: NOW I know to keep a sharp eye out though:thumbsup2 We DO wish they made a caramel without nuts though. I do not have the German love for Hazle nuts:rolleyes:

I also still enjoy flying. And, tend to have more "adventures" than "disasters".

That's exactly it! Of course some things can be annoying, but it really depens on yourself wether you let them annoy you! When I was delayed once for 15 hours for a flight to Europe from the WDW (got to stay another night in Orlando) I thought it was incredibly interesting to see how things work if the airline puts you up in a hotel. The only thing that was really difficult was the friend I was travelling with who did not stop complaining... :headache:

By the way, the same applies to train travel...

I am in the land of inferior chocolate at the moment but may have to take that long delayed trip to Berlin in the spring now!

I will check out the new shop next week in my lunch break and will report back! The Shokoladenmuseum sounds really interesting, too. :thumbsup2

She gave me two cans of soda and extra snacks. It was perfect. :)

My favorite flight ever... nothing but deadheads and non-revs... BOS to LAX. 40 plus a flight crew of 6 including pilots. The shortest 5 1/2 hour flight I've ever had.

:goodvibes

Oh, I enjoyed the cold last week in BOS! Of course, I get to leave after 4 days... and leave the snow shoveling to others...

CLOT on, ladies! :)

Continual cold, crappy weather, natural crankiness added in...yep, that's why there are so many CLOTs from NE.
Expirateshopgirl....I hear ya..hang in there.

You were 30 miles away and you didn't let me know???? Bah. That's all I'm gonna say...just Bah.

I'll say Bah too! :)

We're actually expecting DS to get dinging for extra security again in February when we fly to FL. With the additional security it's probably inevitable. So 2 weeks ago we went and applied for his passport. He'll need it anyway this summer for some soccer games in Canada, so we figured we might as well get it sooner rather than later.

Flying is still fun and an adventure for us, we just know that the additional security could add some time onto our security clearance, so we plan for it.

Oh, and I'm NOT telling Bavaria when we fly out, because she often seems to bring the snow to this neck of the woods. :lmao:;)

Best to go in off season as it gets very warm in summer and crowded with cruise ship tourists. They have historical displays from major producers including Milka, Nutella, Kinder, and lots of other no longer in business companies.

Peanuts are still very 'uncommon' as a sweet in Germany, as you may have discovered. Hazelnuts are the nut for sweets. Milka had a peanut bar a few years ago in France and I loved it because it was unusual; Ritter was making the orange wrapper 'Erdnuss' bar but I haven't seen it for awhile so it may be a retired flavour now.

The Karamell Nuss sounded good but is too sweet for my taste; Olympia is also sweet but I much prefer it. And absolutely nothing compares to Blätterkrokant which never seems to have made it to the export market. Even the Lindt Cresta sold in Germany is different (ie read 'better') than the version sold for the export market. But there I go again apparently raising the ire of some readers. ;)

I also enjoy train travel. I have taken the train from NYC to the home of our missy moderator several times, and it isn't quite the same experience as taking a 'modern' train in Europe. (Well, I suppose that the Acela and the Thalys are about the same quality) I love holidaying on the 29 Euro idTGV fares and upgrading to First for just a few Euros more.

Look to the post above!!! Remember that very snowy Friday when you were trying to fly IN and I was trying to fly OUT?? I switched to the train instead of the plane, and had a lovely ride to New York. Even the train station was very pleasant and interesting in your city.

Grrrr... oh, wait, what am I complaining about? Apartment living means maintenance does all the shoveling, and heck - at least we HAVE weather here! Not like some parts of the country which shall remain nameless but where the so-called 'weather' is dull, boring, and almost entirely unchanging...

Thanks for the picture, I love museums like that!

:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9: The best Christmas sweets ever invented: Blätterkrokant pine cones from Lindt! We always have them on our Christmas tree. But the easter egg variation if pretty good, too! :goodvibes

Well, to move it back into the realm of the original subject matter, I am a little peeved to say the least that LH seems to have (hopefully temporarily!) replaced the Reber Mozartkugel Betthupferl with some other assorted brands of things in business class. I believe that may be part of the secret cost cutting measures outlined in Der Spiegel recently.

Those just get tucked into my handbag for my father instead of eaten, like the Mozartkugel.... (Or maybe LH just wants me to continue with the Delhi Diet and are doing their part to help!)
