When does your child's school get out for Christmas Vacation?

:teacher: My DD(17) full day on 12/23 off 12/26-1/2 back to school 1/3.

12/21 thru 1/4 is scheduled at the school. She won't be back til the 9th. :earsboy: pirate: :rolleyes1

DD's last day is December 16. They go back January 4.

My DD's school calendar is online.

For 2005/2006 her last day is Friday 12/23 and she's supposed to be back on Wednesday 1/4. She won't be back from WDW until the Monday after.

2006/2007 tenative schedule is: last day Friday 12/22 return Monday 1/8.
2007/2008 tenative schedule is: last day Friday 12/21 return Monday 1/7

DS's last day is the 16th (he WON'T be there. . .he has a date with a mouse :rotfl: :rotfl: ) And goes back Jan 4th!!!

DD's last day of school is Dec 22 and she goes back on Jan 2. DH has the same schedule. Yippee! I am looking forward to family time!
DD got out a whole week earlier last year - this year they are trying a new schedule where they get longer fall and spring breaks and shortened the Christmas break time. I really love it and it is working out great.

We get out 12/22. Originally teachers had to report on 12/23, but we complained LOUDLY and now we have the 23rd off. Teachers go back 1/9, students 1/10. Calendars are still up in the air for next year. :wave2:

Here is a little tidbit I learned THIS year..

We were slated to fly out after school on the 16th (Friday) managed a decent fare from SWA (1035 RT) went to book car and it was 750 for the 6 nights!!!

Poking around I discovered if we left on the 15th (Thursday) after school our airfare went down to $577 (rt for 5 TOTAL) and our mini van is 200 for 7 days..

Soooo the kids are missing that Friday and we are saving $1000 bucks.

This "two and a half weeks off for Christmas" thing seems to be limited to a handful of southern states (and a full week off for Thanksgiving is even rarer). My company sells employee benefit plans to school systems all over the U.S, and the people in the service unit (who know like the back of their hands when systems are and aren't open) tell me almost all of the country doesn't go off for the holiday until around 12/23, and almost all are back by 1/2.

Here in my part of North Carolina, the kids begin their winter break with 1/2 a day on the 21st. They return on January 4th.

We have an 11am dismissal on the 23rd and return of the 3rd. That is pretty much the norm around here.

And everywhere else except a score or two of sunbelt counties.

I've found a lot of the schools that get out later in December have some sort of extended winter break in February, around President's Day and a late April Spring Break. In the Southern schools it's a fall break, earlier spring break and dismissal before Memorial Day.

Very fascinating how things differ all over the country!

Our school district last day is Dec 16th... we are in a burb of Chicago....

DDs last day of school is 12/21, and she starts back on 1/3.

This is absolutely correct - the minority of systems that have a two week long break around Christmas don't have a subsequent one week off around President's day, which the systems that only give a week a Christmas do.

As for the "late April" break, the schedules of systems that do that actually vary quite a bit by region. Many -- but not all -- try to tie that week of vacation to Easter, but because the date of latter isn't fixed, the date of the vacation is often different in various areas of the country. In particular, if Easter falls very early (ergo, March) or late (late April), the Spring vacation dates can be quite different by region.

That happened this year (Easter was early, on 3/27), and as a result, all winter the DIS was full of debates over which weeks in April were and weren't going to be busy. As it ended up, the 2005 "Spring vacation" traffic ended up being spread all over April, so there really wasn't a particular "best week" to go to WDW. Next year, Easter falls smack dab in mid April (4/16) and subsequently many systems will book their Spring break right around it (week before or after), so those periods will be ones to avoid at Disney.
