When does winter break end in LA?

I will be there for one Sunday only- January 8th. DL is open till 10pm so since we won't get to the parks untill 1pm or so we figured this would be a better option than DCA which closes at 8.

So- Any idea and what the crowds might be like? I am hoping kids go back to school on the 3rd so it shouldn't be too bad. Am I crazy?

Most kids will be back in school by then and Sunday is typically a slower day anyway, so you should be OK.

We are going Dec 31 - Jan 7 so had the same question. (Look for my post early on this board and the great replies).

It seems that this year the public schools in LA are out until Jan 9.

The advice from this board is that the parks will be busier than typical for this time of the year and to plan accordingly.

With my "Unofficial Guide to Disney" book in my hand I am preparing for the worst and will be the Disney Nazi for our trip, but hoping that the crowds will be not too bad.

Alot of schools in SoCal are on track systems so you can never really count on the local kids being in or out of school. At any given time a track can be 'off track'. This is our districts 2nd year without the track system. We'll be going back to school 3rd but LAUSD goes back the 8th I believe (except their track schools).

This is the first year my kids have a longer break, they go back the 9th also.
But your Sunday night there should be great, because most have to be back to the routine the next day.

my DD is on a "traditional" calendar at her high school, and they are out 12/24-01/08.

The Newport Mesa Schools (orange county) go back on the 9th as well. LA unified is more confusing... here goes from the LAUSD website:

Single Track students are on break 12/19 - 1/6
4 track students 12/19 - 1/2 (121 Schools)
3 track students 12/22 or 23 - 1/2 (87 Schools)
