thinking of moving our march 5 ressie to okw but don't want to deal with construction noise.

It says spring but what month?

What is a good building to request that is close to pool/cs

Since the units at OKW are spread out in many different buildings, I wouldn't worry about construction noise. Unless they were actually working on the building you were in, there shouldn't be any impact at all.

good to know. We were at cbr in Sept and on day 2 of our 10 days they started cutting down all the trees with chainsaws and had backhoes digging out the gardens in went on for 8 hrs for 2 days and they were just getting started.....we ovied but I hate to move!

we just didn't want that to hapen again.

is there a good building to request close to the pool and food. we were there once but it was our first trip to wdw and I remember very little of okw I was overwhelmed with everything.(great trip though)

:)If you want to be close to the main pool and Olivia's, then I would request a building near the Hospitality House. That is a booking category (no extra points) that is first come, first served. Have fun at OKW, we love it there!

Webmaster Doc posted from his trip this week that Buildings 11 and 12 are presently undergoing refurb.
These buildings are located in "near Hospitality House" category.
:goodvibes

do you think that if 11 and 12 are undergoing referb now they would be done by march 5? I know our reno's take months and months and months here at my house:lmao:

It's hard to say what the renovation schedule might be - I'd assume that 2 months will be enough for a rehab due to the number of buildings at OKW and the expectation that they all be done in a little over a year.

These are supposed to be full rehab - Buildings 11/12 even have porta-potties outside, suggesting that plumbing updates may also be part of the schedule. The living rooms in 1 and 2BR villas will be getting hardwood floors as well as new blinds, paint, flat screen TVs, drapes, etc in all villas. At the two buildings already cordoned off, they have alreaady scrapped the old AC units - they are all stacked away from the buildings, apparently ready to be hauled away.

Even if they are completed by March 5, only those with a "near HH" reservation are likely to be placed in them and the next likely to be rehabbed may be 13/14 - meaning that 25% of that reservation category is out-of-service.

Stay tuned! :)

thanks for the info. I want to be near HH but not at the expense of being beside contruction. I don't care if I get a refurb'd unit or not though.

Can't remember where we stayed last time but I do remember that by the time we got to the hh dragging a 3 and 5 year old it wasn't really worth going :thumbsup2

We heard absolutely nothing from the rehab the past 11 days. Any work is done during the day (never at night) and most of the work is interior and will not generate a lot of noise.

Only Buildings 11-14 and 23-26 are in the "Near HH" category and that is likely aleady filled if you haven't already made the reservation (they will tell you when making the reservation if it's available). Otherwise, I'd request 27-29, 15-18 or 62-64 , as all of those are also very convenient to HH. I think that 62-64 and 14-18 are as close as 24-26 and 27-29 are only a max of about 100 yards beyond 26.

Enjoy! :)

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but we are going to be at OKW in March as well, I think I read the pool was going to be closed for refurb all of Feb, anyone else hear anything. Last year SSR was closed while we were there, trying to avoid it this year.

Doc....

I'm in building 13 now. As you said, buildings 11 and 12 are closed off. Don't know if 13 is next or not. But it does look like 13 has been recently rehabbed (but of course not the total rehab they are planning.) 13 looks to have been recently painted and cleaned inside and out. It must have gone thru a mini-rehab not too long ago.

We had the same thing in building 14 last month. I thought it looked pretty good.

thanks you all for your help. I feel much better now and will change my ressie to okw tomorrow.

just to make sure I am looking at this right ( first dvc stay)

i own 100 points I booked at kidani for a total of
290 pts
100 banked
100 current
90 borrowed

new ressie is only 243 points
I want to cancel kidani and when I book OKW ask them to use my banked and borrowed first and have the extra points from current use year returned to current use year.

than I have to bank those correct??

Do you think that hardwood floors will be loud if you are on the 1st. and 2nd floors with hardwood floors above you. I have heard people complain about being below a GV at OKW that it was noisy. I hope this is not a problem. We love OKW and it is our home resort and I am looking forward to staying here after the refurb. but I am a lite sleeper. I'm not sure about hardwood.

Doc, One more thing if they are getting rid of air conditioning will they be replaced with similiar units are will they be the motion sensor units like the newer DVC's. I hope not that is another thing I loved about OKW, that great air conditioning, especially in the summer months.:cool1::cool1:

My understanding is that the sub-flooring will be insulated to minimize potential noise. (Stay tuned though! )

I have not heard anything about the type of A/C units that may be used. Sorry! :(

I wonder to what extent the floors will be redone. The whole living room and hall or just parts or what?

Just subscribing to the thread. we are going to OKW in October and had no idea there were rehabbing rooms there. Thanks for the update.

Does anyone know when they will finish the rehab?

It's not the a/c unit you need to be concerned about, it's the thermostats that have the motion sensors built into them. The current sensor stats can be fooled and in most cases you can override the programming. Lets hope that they don't upgrade the sytem to one with a master control controlled by computer program at a central location. After hearing complaints about BLT hvac problems I have suspition that BLT is on this system.

Wow, I understood the discussion of hardwood floors to apply to the GV's. Never even thought they would put them in the 1BR/2BR units.

Not sure how I feel about that :confused3:scratchin

Hope they include an area type rug under the LR furniture at least.
