When does the feeling of being "Home" hit you?

wkrider,

that video is amazing! I'm so going to have to watch that every day until I get "Home" (20 days and counting) Just watching the video I got that feeling. Thanks!! :)

We always fly, and we always take the same airline (there isn't much choice around here). So when we get off the airplane, my first stop is in the ladies room nearest our gate-always the same ladies room. So I guess the feeling of being "Home" first hits me when I enter that ladies room!

The excitement builds as we start seeing Orlando road signs, then drive under the arch. When you enter the hotel lobby, you definitely know you are home. But there is nothing like that first glimpse of the castle. It is always breathtaking and puts a tear in my eye. (Then I look over and my husband is giving me that "You're crazy" look :rolleyes2 Oh well I guess he will never understand :confused3

1) Stepping off the plane on to the jetway and you get the first hint of the Orlando heat... (it's only a tease for later)

2) The MCO monorail and hearing that voice...

3) Stepping outside to go to the garage to pick up our car (what are we gonna get this time??? DD always picks them out :confused3 ) and fealing the real blast of heat and humidity...

4) Driving under the arch, I always yell out WE'RE BAAACCCKKK!!! (Drives DD absolutely crazy)

5) Pulling up to BWV (we're DVC) and having the guard say "Welcome Home" :cloud9:

Oh, I definitely know this feeling! We spend the first day at Sea World (because we always have free tickets) and I never get that feeling until we go to the resort to check in that night. Resorts are always more beautiful at night and it just feels so comforting and breath taking at the same time. I love that first night. That's when I'm home.

As soon as I walk through the doors and into the Poly lobby. The smells and sounds instantly transport me out of the real world, and into the Disney World. I know this sounds hard to believe, but in all my travels, that feeling has yet to be dupllicated. Last Oct. marked my first trip to Disney World in 12 years, now I can't imagine not returning at least once a year.

I live 2 hours from the world, in a beachy town, so i would say my perception is quite different.

I dont know what the 'florida smell' is. Because i smell it everyday.
I've never ridden the mini-monorail.
I'm in and out of Orlando so much, the billboards dont do much for me either.

But...

When i drive under those Disney gates, I get butterflies and goosebumps.
But what really makes me feel at "home" is the music.

Disney works so hard to make sure the music, even in the bathrooms, fits the mood or theme perfectly and I pick up on every note.

Most notably - Walking down Main Street, seeing the castle, hearing the main street ragtime disney song music, smelling the main street bake shop, seeing the Disney balloons and walking through the castle to hear the fantasyland medley and into fantasy land to hear cinderellas carosuel. I always cry. Its just the happiest feeling i've ever experienced.

Its the triple threat. Disney is sights + sound + smells = pure magic.

When I see land after flying for hours accross the atlantic with only just sea below us. Watching the coastline from Greenland to New York and down the eastern seaboard towards Orlando. Getting so close to see the swamps of Florida through the plane window. When the wheels touch the runway and the doors open and can feel the humid air of florida after a nine hour flight. :sunny:

Waiting for hours to get through immigration at Orlando airport and finally picking up our hire car.

:Pinkbounc And I am telling everyone at work, I can hardly WAIT to go HOME! :cheer2:  :cheer2: As soon as I am 1 hour away, either by car or train, I get GIDDY! :p

Driving under the WDW sign! It's just not real until then!

I get a second blast walking in to the loby to check-in. Nothing like a WDW Resort Hotel, I don't care what anyone says!

we book our plane tickets. THEN once we get off the plane and enter the terminal it hits and this JOLT of energy hits!! And I'm bouncing all over the place!! Every worry, sadness, pain disappears. While reading everyone responses it's really nice that we all experince those same feeling for our "home". Yes I could sit on a bench on Main Street and be content. I could lay in a hammock at the poly beach and NEVER want to leave. Just entering under those signs . . . .honestly it brings tears to my eyes. (sorry about being so emotional) When it's time to leave, it really hurts inside and you would do anything to spend just one more moment there. Some people don't understand but you all do and it too is a great feeling knowing that we are not alone.

Bumping up and adding one feeling.

Tonight i was listening to Sorcerer Radio on live 365 and i listened to Illuminations. I have the CD but haven't listened to it in soooooo long. Anyways, I always cry when I see Illuminations the first night because it sinks in that im there, watching my favorite show, with my family. I cry like a baby lol.

Geez, I'm getting choked up just reading some of these. Can we leave now?? Don't know if I can wait seven more months.
Sigh.
At any rate, the "home" sensation begins the moment we drop the top on our rental convertible and hit that Florida highway. It doubles as we pass through the WL gate and the guard welcomes us home. It hits its crescendo as we walk through the front door, into that magnificent lobby, and hear the thundering western music.
Gotta love it.
Every time.
Enjoy,
Q

What a great thread! :) It has to be when the plane lands and I am walking thru the airport. My dd thinks I am crazy as I love the smell of "Muggy Airport" thinks it would make a great new Yankee Candle scent! I guess only us Disers might buy it though! :) When I see that very first palm tree I am happy and home.
LOL - ah, yes, the airport smell is unique and definitely a sign that you are close. The monorail with THE voice always makes me smile.

Walking into the Poly (our original home) or now the Boardwalk always gives me goosebumps and a sense of home.

But it's definitely those first steps down Main Street that get me more than anything else!

It's the first purple and red-orange highway sign for us. We used to live in Atlanta and drove down to WDW alot. Now flying from CT, when that rental buggy passes the first sign, it's still the same! Crazy, huh? :cool1:

It's the first blast of warm air that comes through the crack between the jetway and the plane as I'm getting off. That air is nearly always warmer than the air we left behind.

And lucky for me I'm escaping the 40 degree weather here in just a few hours. Should feel that warm air around 5:30 this evening :sunny: :cool1:

For me, coming home is that glimpse of "the Giant Golfball" as DS5 calls it. We started out last trip (DH and DS5 first) trip at Epcot and just seeing the amazement on their faces was priceless. I think the most "home" like feeling for me is when I sit on bench outside the Tiki Room with my Citrus Swirl. I've done it every Disney trip I've ever been.

For me the feeling starts when I pay my first toll driving into Fla. We live in middle ga so it's about a 5-5 1/2 hr drive. Then it's going through the arches. I swear I have at least a dozen of pictures of the arches because every time we go there I have to take another picture. dh has gotten into the habit of "wiggling" the steering wheel to tease me when I whip my camera out to take a picture of it. He says I have too many pictures of that thing already. I can't help it. My heart starts to beat faster and my palms get sweaty just going through there....it's love :earboy2:

When we see those BIG PURPLE road signs - I always tear up and have my camera on hand to snap the entrance sign that announces that we are at the WORLD

Okay, I have to stop reading these replies, I'm getting all melancholy, and have another 6 months to go. Oh, who am I kidding, I'll keep reading them, as long as everybody keeps writing them.
