I'm just trying to figure out how busy the last weekend of August will be so I can plan our days.

We will be at WDW from Thursday, August 21 until Monday, August 25. Here in Summerville, SC, schools start on August 7 or 8. I am wondering if it will still be really busy at WDW during our time there. If it's still fairly busy at WDW, we may not take advantage of EMH. If it's slowed down a bit from the summer rush, we'll do the early mornings.

Does anybody know if it's still crowded this time of year? I know it'll be hot but we're used to that, being from South Carolina near the beach!

Maryland, Delaware, and Massachusetts schools start the last full week in August. It could go either way as far as crowds go. You'll have some that want to squeeze in the last vacation of the summer and others who will want to stay home and get prepared for the new school year. A lot of my friends and neighbors are staying home that week to get the kids adjusted to bedtimes, wake up times, etc...

1st day of school - August 11th in NC.

We will get home from a week at Ft.W cabin on Aug 4th. Meet the teacher will be Aug 7th. I'll have 4 kids in school this year - 4th grade, 3rd, 2nd and DD starts kindgergarten. I have already started back to school shopping. Using the clothes for our trips.
Everyone has a new backpack, still have to get one more lunchbox.

I probally won't be completely unpacked until they are back in school.

The week before Labor Day here, which coincidentally is the same week we will be at WDW. Oh well, DD is just in pre-school; missing the first week shouldn't be a problem.

September 3rd here. :( I can't believe some of you start back as early as August 11th!!! We just got out of school 6/24.

Texas passed a law 2 years ago mandating that schools not open until the week of Aug. 21, so our schools start Monday the 18th. Some schools have gotten waivers and start as early as Aug. 4.

Hi

We live in central Alabama...in my particular county school starts back on Aug. 13th.

City schools either start earlier or later, and then we have 1 school in the entire county that is on the year round system.

Going to Disney with my granddaughter!

WI made a new law that we have to start the day after Sept. 1 for tourist reason.

I think I am missing something. When did WI become a tourist state.

Anyhow for all you that start in early August, when did you end your school year. It seems like you guys are almost on a year round school system, with a few weeks off for summer.

Livonia, MI., where I teach, begins on Aug. 25. The state of MI has manadated that all schools must be CLOSED on the Friday before Labor Day. The original idea was to NOT start any MI schools until after Labor Day and the group that was pushing this was the tourism industry. The Friday off was the compromise reached. Right now a few school districts remain open on that day, but when new teacher contracts are negotiated, they, too, will be closed.

In Indiana where I live it starts August 13th...we got out the Friday BEFORE Memorial day though!

Schools around here start about Aug 11, but are done before Memorial Day.

August 4th here, but teachers go back July 30th! That makes me sad!!

AUGUST 4th?!?!?!?! I'd be looking for a new district! I'm a teacjer. our last day was june 18, & we start on the tuesday after memorial day...the 2nd, i think.

This will be our first year on the 'modified' calendar. We'll get two weeks off in October and April (see trip countdowns!) and two weeks at Christmas. We'll get out about June 2. I'm willing to give it a try!!

In our school district, the first day for students is August 7th. Staff goes back on the 4th. We're out very early also though....generally around May 20th.

We start Aug 11th and get out May 14th

Laurie :)
