When does Daytona Beach get crazy during race week?

We are fortunate to make family member's home our base for our Florida vacations. We were due to leave for a two week stay in eight days. Now we have MAJOR car issues. At best we will have to delay the vacation, at worst cancel outright for the year or more. If things work out and we only have to push back a week or two, that puts us there during race week. How bad does it get and more importantly, when? We stay on the NW side of town across I95 (at LPGA International). We have a pool and would be more than happy to hide in the pool for a few days if need be. The big race is Saturday July 2 with the minor race the day before. Does it get crazy just something like Wed-Sun or is it worse than that? I really don't want to push vacation further away...assuming that we don't have to cancel all together.

It does not get to crazy. There is a free Parking lot for race fans off of Clyde Morris. Which runs into LPGA. The only problem would be before the race starts and right after the race finish. They direct all traffic away from LPGA. so if you happen to be trying to get back to your home base from wherever you are they would not let you in until the traffic has subsided.

Hope that helps!

As a local it really doesn't affect us much. You just don't want to be on the roads for a couple hours after the races let out. Also wait times in restaurants can be long if you don't go early.
