We are waiting for tax money to buy into DVC but are still trying to decide which resort. Are we able to buy at "sold out" resorts? We like BWV or BCV and are worried if they are not our home resort we will have trouble booking there. (We will most likely travel the last week of August most years) We like the look of SSR but don't care for where it's located. AKV is too dark for us but love the aspect of having animals out our window. Are we being too picky about decor?

On the other hand, I would rather have a longer contract since my kids are only 5 and 1-1/2 and I'm only 30. I want to be able to enjoy DVC with the grandkids and I'm not expecting any of them for at least 25 years.

Can I buy 2 contracts at 2 resorts to get my minimum or do I have to buy all points at 1 resort to get the minimum?

If you buy through Disney, you need to buy at least 160 points and for new members at SSR and AKV I believe you still need to have them on one contract. Through resales, you can get whatever. Don't know what Disney does with the sold-out resorts but I imagine the minimum need to be on one also. Plus you can only ressie at 11 mos. with the points you have for that resort. You cannot use the other resort points until 7 months to ressie at the other.

Don't worry about being picky. You are spending a lot of money so buy where you want to be the most. If you want BCV or BWV, buy there and have that 11 mo. ressie capability. You can most likely always get SSR at 7 months.

Term of contract was something I took into account also. BCV, BWV and VWL expire in 2042; SSR in 2054 and AKV in 2057.

at your age, I say go for SSR or AKL.

I bought the biggest amount with the cheapest fees (OKW). I then bought some small contracts 50, 25 and 25 at the other resorts. I then get to choose the place.. I bought mine all through resales. I would not buy SSR if you do not like it.

That's where my problem is. I think the resort is beautiful, it just seems so out of the way. Isn't one side against a road? I would rather have the convience of BWV & BCV of walking to Epcot & DS and feeling like your in the middle of everything.

If I have 160 Points at AKV (for contract length) and 50 Points at BWV(For Location) do they have to have the same UY to be able to use points from the other contracts? Is 7 months out for the end of August a hard time to book?

I agree with this..If you always go in August, especially late August, you should be able to switch to BW/BCV at the 7 month mark..I do like the walk to Epcot myself and will be at BW this August. That said, as SSR is completed and AKL also, competition for the rooms will be increased. Good luck..

If you are asking if you can combine points from different resorts for reservations at the 11 month window...no. Only points from that resort can be used. At 7 months, points are points and can be used anywhere, based upon availability.

Thanks everyone! You are all so helpful. I think my best bet would be to buy AKV for the length of contract. The kids won't always be in school and I try to plan ahead accordingly but for now with DD starting Kindergarten this year we will be planning around her schedule and then DS's for the next 20 years.
