When do your kids go BACK to school?

DD6 goes back the day after Labor Day (last day this year is 6/17). We will be in WDW 8/29-9/5 - hoping for light crowds b/c so many schools do go back before Sept.!

I believe that DS goes back 9/8, but I seem to remember that he started back on 9/2 last year. So maybe the Labor Day rule doesn't apply. :confused3

He gets out 6/12, but 6/10, 6/11, and 6/12 are all early release days.

Our last day is June 4th, and school starts back up again on the Tuesday after Labor Day...Sept 8th. In Michigan it is a law that school cannot start until after Labor Day, I think to promote tourism.

That is why we are going to WDW the first week of September!!!

We are in MI too, had to move our trip because this year DD starts BEFORE labor day! (I think are subtly telling the state where to go! No one is happy about it!:rolleyes1)

We had booked bounce back dining last year for the 1st week in Sept before she started school. Luckily today a wonderful cm helped me move it to the last week in August, and we get a couple of extra days now.

August 31 thru June 9th. (But they have the Friday off before Labor Day, so dumb! :confused3)

We are out June 23 and go back Sept 8. (We'll be in Disney until 9/5!) That's one long break you have this year.

Last Day of school is June 23 (we leave for WDW on June 26:cool1:). They go back on Sept 2.

I know it's WAAY early to even think about this, especially since the kids are just starting to get out of school, but I'm curious when school starts again for your kids?
Our next trip to WDW is August 15 - 22, and DD starts school on 8/31.
I'm kind of curious when various schools start up again (for entirely selfish reasons I'm wondering if it will reduce crowd levels when we're there).

(FWIW DD's last day of school this year is 6/5.)

Our kids go back to school on August 5th and get out next Friday. We do year round school so they will get Fall Break in October which is when we will head back to Disney.

Kids get out May 29th and start back Aug. 24th. Get out in 2010 on June 4th. Florida schools are breaking out of the "southern schools" mode. They are trying to make the schedule closer to the one most northern schools follow. I may be in the minority but I prefer they way it used to be here where they went to school in early August and got out Mid-May. Of course, our schools are air conditioned so we don't have as many heat issues. I am really not happy that they want to change our calendar here in southwest Florida. Nothing I can do about it though except move to Mississipi? Wonder if the school districts are better there?:thumbsup2

Aren't all you guys that start back in early and mid august a little miffed? I am ticked that my kids go back before labor day. The weather is so hot here when they go back and we have a pool. They get home from school and are in the pool and hard to get out and get them focused on anything. The same with the rest of the kids in the neighborhood, they are at my door before they even have a snack at their house. I would be happy to give up our thanksgiving break, spring bread and the week before christmas off to have a longer summer. The other times of the year their isn't all that much to do for us and my sons high school doesn't have the same time off that the public schools do so we can't go anywhere.

I'm not miffed as my kids are used to year round school and they do so much better than traditional school. I like the week offs (fall Break, spring break, etc) so we can go places while other kids are still in school and it is not as busy.

We don't start back until the day after Labor Day here in the Philly area. We will be at WDW from 8/21-28; that gives us a little time to exhale!;)

YES, especially here in California where Im at its HOT in the 100's. Luckily they have A/C BUT with all the budget cuts who knows if they will still allow it to be on?

This yr they are cutting out the 2 week thanksgiving break (which i thought was dumb in the 1st place) and it will just be the 2days, and the 2week spring break will just be 1, thus they will get out in 2010 at the end of May. still dumb IMO

I am in SoCal and agree with you. We only got a week at Thanksgiving and a week at easter. I did hear that possibly we would have 7 less school days next year due to budget cuts. Fine by me split them up between the end of the year and the time we go back.

We used to be on year round here and I only liked it for the one year my kids were all on the same track and the same time. It gets to be a PIA when you have ones in Jr high on a traditional schedule and the elementary is on year round. it is alot easier to pull kids out of elementary school for a few days then it is Jr. High and High School. IT can be done but it can put your kids behind pretty fast even if they are good students.

This year we took my oldest out of school for one day to go to Disneyland which was all fine and good til he got sick a few weeks later and missed 2 days with a cold and then a week and a half with the flu/pinkeye/severe nose bleed. He is up to 11 abcenses this semester and is way behind. Its a real struggle to get caught up with all the tests and keeping current with your current homework and study load.

We get out June 18th and start September 1st. We used to start after Labor Day but they switched to the Tuesday before Labor Day a few years ago. Of course that year the last day was June 28th so the kids had a short summer. We just get two days off for Thanksgiving, no fall break, 1 week between Christmas and New Years. We also get a week in Feb and a week off in April. All of our elementary schools have a/c but the high school is much older and may not (not there yet).

I wish ours got those kind of summer breaks.....ours have a week next week (25th-29th May), and then they break for the summer on 17th July and go back 2nd Sept......

I am in CT and we get out on Monday, June 22 (yes, the last day is monday if you can believe that) and the first day for the kids is Tuesday, August 25.

I wasn't surprised at that date as it was about the same date this year, but then I realized that Labor Day was LATE and my kids will be in school for just about 2 weeks before Labor Day. UGH

So, enjoy your trip to WDW in August, but I hate to tell you that all of the summer is very crowded at Disney and VERY hot and humid....however, you will have a great time, so enjoy and think of my kids in school already!!!

My son has 1 HOUR of school on MONDAY June 1st (an hour on a Monday....give me a break). They go back on August 18th.:teacher:
