So we just moved to a new town in pa and we start do put out all of the Halloween things getting ready for trick or treaters all is well. Dh is at work and Ds 5 gets home from school yesterday and and tells me that tonight is trick or treat night. WHAT??? So I say NO it's next week. well next thing you know I have kids at the door all dressed and wanting candy. OMG! what am I gonna do ? So I get candy out thank goodness I got some from walmart I love that store! I call Dh and tell him to get his rear home we get the kids dressed and out we go. three hrs later we come home with bags of candy. My town trick or treats a week early Is this strange???

That's pretty early. We trick-or-treat next Tuesday. I know that Halloween is actually on Wednesday, but they changed it b/c of church.

We always trick or treat or Halloween no matter what day of the week it falls on.

We TOT on Halloween no matter what too. We are in PA so it is interesting to see it differnt in other parts.

Same here... I would be pissed if my town decided to pick and different date and tell me when to trick or treat.

Very strange. Our city will not do it on a Friday-Sunday night due to football and they claim "safety" reasons (though given the drunks with most football I dont' blame them). So the earliest they do it will be the Thursday before. A week before sounds way odd to me.

On Halloween Night, I would be pretty dissapointed if it were any other night. there was a thread on here not to long ago though on this topic, and there were alot of other states, and cities that did TOT on a different night.

My sil in Pa in Millville Pa to be exact trick or treats tonight. I am Jersey born an bred and we have alway's trick or treated on Halloween. It seems kinda weird to do it any other day.:confused3

Another from PA, for a long time we TOT'd on the Thursday before Halloween, which was last night. A couple of years ago, they came to their senses and had TOT on Halloween, so we go next Wed.

We do it on Halloween. I had never heard of anyplace doing ToT any other day until just a couple days ago reading about it here. That is so weird!! And the one who said they moved it because of church?? That makes no sense. Is the church so big, and the town so small, that church can influence moving a holiday? It's not like ToT'ing is done on Sunday morning. Odd!

If you ToT early, then what do you do ON Halloween?

Hey, let's celebrate Christmas a week early, then we can have a New Year's countdown on Christmas!! Let's just move the whole darn year up a week for the heck of it! Won't that be FUN??!

Another PA person (eastern) we trick or treat tonight!

I haven't heard anything different so my guess is the "official" day is Halloween but I wouldn't be surprised if it is changed because of church.
The local mathodist college always does it the Sat before Halloween (unless Halloween is a Sat) right before their Halloween party.
We take DD there because the college kids are all dressed up and their dorms are decorated.
Thie yr we are invited to 2 birthday parties on halloween. Both plan to TorT right after the party. I better remind both moms the check with their neighborhoods because of it being on a Wed

Yes. Our town is that small that the churches can influence moving a holiday. I personally don't agree with it, but the mayor is super-religious and believes that the kids should be in church on Wednesday. They are, however, having a "street party" on Wednesday (I guess for us "evil" people who choose not to send our kids to church that evening.) ;)

Des Moines metro area is almost always on October 30th. it started back int he 40's or 50's as a "safety measure" and has continued on through today. TOT has moved to the 31st to avoid a Sunday. It's weird and everyone who moves here comments on it.

the other half of the weirdness is that kids are required to tell a joke or do a trick to earn their candy. we don't just hand it out.

We trick or treat on Halloween. I never heard of doing it on a different day until I came to these boards.
I think it is downright stupid to move TOT to a different day

That is just wrong on so many levels. Is there only one church in town, and they have services only on Wednesday nights? What about Sunday morning, isn't that when you're "supposed" to go to church? Those other nights, I thought, are just for people who can't/don't want to go on Sunday mornings. As in OPTIONAL. And who the heck is the MAYOR to tell people when to go to CHURCH? Hello... separation of church and state?

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to go off-topic, but this whole thing is just so bizarre.

My kids going trick or treating on the actual night of Halloween. They have never gone on any other night :)
