Filled up my car today and I must say I can not afford to anymore. Gonna have to just fill it half way. My DS teased and said we were going to have to get a horse pretty soon. Where we live (in the boondocks -LOL) we have to drive 45 minutes to get to the city (about 15-20 minutes to get to the grocery store). Any one care to guess when the gas prices will lower?

Honestly I think unless we find an alternative to oil I feel they will continue to rise and continue to drive up the prices of consumer products. Billions of dollars in profits is not enough, they now need trillions.

Our dependency on foreign oil has us at the mercy of these oil producing countries.

Prices may come down after the November election, but not until they top off at almost $3.00 a gallon. Then you'll think your getting a bargain at $1.90 a gallon.

Heard on some news programs that the price of oil has an $8.00 to $10.00 fear factor added to every barrel right now. Some experts are saying that there will be a little more of a rise and then it will come down.

I am a pessimist and I feel that we will continue to see an increase and because of growing WORLD demand, might not see much of a reduction at all.

You know what they say about being a pessimist...We are always right or pleasantly surprised. Have been right too much lately, it is time for me to be pleasantly surprised.

By the way, I also saw another report that many U.S. oil wells are shut down until the oil reaches $24.00+/barrel. This means that instead of using domestic oil we must imported oil until the Companies can make a profit on every barrel that is pumped out of the ground. Less dependency on foreign oil when home pumped oil is used but there has to be a profit in it. Another reason to keep prices high.

When will the price of oil come down? When people demand it. As long as we keep purchasing it, they'll gouge us.

I got an email the other day stating that May 19th is the day to show them how we feel by not buying any gas that day. I plan to do so.

There are other alternative energy sources out there - we just don't use them because oil is "easy".

Once the summer travel season is over...probably about September or Ocotber.

According to the news yesterday, right after Memorial Day weekend..

But brace yourself - I'm betting it will go right up again just before the 4th of July.. Down again after that and up again just before Labor Day weekend..

I am not very optimistic with this . Not only I am paying a lot for gasoline now, but I will be paying even more in the winter because prices will not come down and propane for my heating system will go up even more than in the past because of the gas prices. I think this summer I will go around my property and round up all the firewood that I can to use my fireplaces, I got plenty of wood around.

My guess is that the prices will go down right before the election.::yes:: ::yes::

I'm afraid we might never see gas drop below $1.25 ever again.

May 19th people, don't buy any gas! I plan on "sticking it to them!"

I'd say not until the summer is over. And even then, they'll continue to raise the price every weekend and holiday. I've learned to not buy gas between Friday and Sunday. Now to remember it!! LOL!

Man, do I agree with THAT....

I HOPE it goes down around summer but I doubt it. Like jipsy said demand will affect the price and demand always go up in the summer.

This is KILLING my finances. I got a new job and it's 35 miles away and I'm making much less than I used to so the timing just STINKS. And this is with a car, I cannot understand how SUVs handle these rates. If I had one it would be traded in by now or I'd be on the bus! :p

I think (using my Miss Cleo powers here) that gas will go down after Memorial Day. I think the gas companies are raising in expectation of all the gas that will be used to travel. HOWEVER, I don't think as many people will travel. I think people will be spooked by the high prices and they will stay home. Therefore, lowering the price.

But, that is JMHO. ;)

Does anyone here SERIOUSLY think that by somehow, getting everyone to NOT buy gas one day is going to do anything to lower prices or make oil company's "suffer"???

And what in the world does "the election" (I'm guessing the elections in November are what is meant) have to do with it?

It's all supply and demand people. It's just that simple.

I think that the price might go down some after Memorial Day, but I wouldn't expect a big drop. Iraq and Libya will help lower the price a little as they slowly increase their pumping capacity. I suspect that most of their increase will be taken up by the Chinese who have discovered the beauty and personal freedom of automobiles. Envy is a very powerful driving-force and I can't think of one oil-exporting country that isn't envious of our country. I don't think there's any country out there thinking, "Those poor Americans. I think we should drop the price of our oil to help them out." Ethanol is too expensive to produce (it takes more energy to produce it than it provides). Probably the best thing to do to lower the price of fuel use is to plan our trips more carefully. Don't go to the grocery store and then come home only to go to the hardware store and return to head out once again to take the kids to soccer. Make one trip to do all three. Just my opinion.

Someone posted a link to snopes regarding why boycotting buying gas on May 19 won't have an impact.

I started taking the train into work and DH has been using his motorcycle to get back and forth. Our SUVs would cost a fortune to fill, so we're playing it very conservatively. $35 to fill my tank every few days is NOT in my budget!

I don't think not getting gas on May 19 is going to have an impact at all. People that need it to go to work , may not get in on the 19th , but they will get the gas on the 18th or the 20th. I know for my dh that is just not an option, there's no public transportation where we live , so the only option is his car. Wether he gets gas that day or not is not going to make an impact, he's going to need it the day before or after anyway. For some folks living in the suburbs that is just not an option.
Now we are conserving gas as much as we can, but what else can we do? Not a darn thing, we are at their mercy and honestly I am thankful that gasoline here is not as expensive as in other countries where they pay the same for a liter of gas.

I know, gas prices are INSANE! My bf has a Altima, and $10 didn't even fill it halfway today!!

What is happening now is not new. Comes in cycles. Just imagine the uproar if gas prices went up even a little at the start of the summer driving season. After Memorial Day, prices will drop but not to the level we had last year. But we, the public with bad memories, will be so happy that we won't realize that we actually had a price rise not a drop. So many factors go into a gallon of gas, it isn't realistic to blame any one of them. From crude oil to the transportation of the oil, to the refinery, to the transportation of the gasoline, to the station owner, to the government with its taxes, everybody is going to make a few cents more. and all of us, even those who benefit from the price rise, will pay a little more.

I also agree that the gas prices will go down right around November but will go up right after the election. The prices have almost ALWAYS gone down AFTER a holiday and back up just BEFORE the next holiday. But with the Pres. losing points in the polls now it is my guess that they will hit the reserves or something to get the prices down in order to get the votes.

I am glad that I have my little Mitsubishi Mirage though. I have been hoping to get a small SUV in a year or so but with the gas prices I will stay small. At least I can afford $12.00 to fill up my tank and if I just go to work and back and do all my errands when I get my gas at SuperWalmart I can usually make it last for about 10 days. I am glad that school is almost out so I will have a couple of months of not working.

I can afford $12.00 to fill up my tank
********************************

Oh how I wish!!!!!

I had an 1/8 of a tank the other day,put $20 in and it only brought it up to 3/4 full. I have a Jeep Cherokee (yes it's an SUV but a small one) and my DH has a Ford truck. He went and got an older Geo Prism at a car auction and we drive that whenever we can now.We just can't afford to drive like we used to, even with the Prism!

I also have NO idea if/when prices will go down.SOON I hope :(
